ASEAN NCAP Announcement Of GAC EMZOOM Assessment Result. Good Or Bad?

So how did the new GAC EMZOOM fare in the ASEAN NCAP Assessment?

The ASEAN New Car Assessment Program (ASEAN NCAP) has recently evaluated the GAC EMZOOM, the first model from GAC Motors to undergo testing under the 2021 to 2025 assessment protocol. Launched earlier this year in Southeast Asia, the GAC EMZOOM has earned a commendable 5-Star safety rating with a total score of 88.39 points.

This rating reflects the vehicle’s performance across four key assessment categories, Adult Occupant Protection (AOP), Child Occupant Protection (COP), Safety Assist (SA) and Motorcyclist Safety (MS). So this is good news right? Let’s wait and see.

Moreover, in detail, the GAC EMZOOM scored 36.60 points in Adult Occupant Protection, 16.43 points in Child Occupant Protection, 17.86 points in Safety Assist, and 17.50 points in Motorcyclist Safety. These scores are derived from ASEAN NCAP’s comprehensive evaluation framework, which assesses a vehicle’s safety features and crashworthiness.

The GAC EMZOOM, a 5-seater hatchback currently available exclusively in Malaysia, boasts a range of standard safety features across all its variants. These include six airbags, an Anti-lock Braking System (ABS), Electronic Stability Control (ESC), a Seatbelt Reminder System for front occupants, and several Autonomous Emergency Braking (AEB) systems covering city driving, inter-urban scenarios, and pedestrian detection.

On top of that, the vehicle is equipped with Blind Spot Visualization (BSV) for both sides, Auto High Beam (AHB), and Pedestrian Protection (PP) technology. For enhanced safety, the hatchback also offers advanced assist technologies as standard, such as AEB for motorcycles, Lane Departure Warning, Forward Collision Warning (FCW) and Lane Keep Assist (LKA). Rear seat belt reminders are available as an optional feature.

The ASEAN NCAP is pleased to see GAC Motors’ commitment to safety with the EMZOOM. Notable features include the standard BSV technology on both sides and AEB for motorcycles, which significantly aid in preventing collisions with motorcyclists from the sides or front. This commitment to safety is crucial as ASEAN NCAP continues its mission to halve road fatalities in the region.

Under the ASEAN NCAP 2021–2025 assessment protocol, the AOP category contributes up to 40.00 points to the overall score, while COP, SA, and MS each account for 20.00 points. ASEAN NCAP congratulates GAC Motors for achieving a 5-Star rating and encourages the brand to maintain its dedication to enhancing road safety.

So will you trust the GAC EMZOOM here in Malaysia given its score on the ASEAN NCAP Assessment?
