The Arcfox Kaola S finally has 5 seats so will we see it in Malaysia as the Koala?
The Arcfox Kaola S, set to launch on 7 August 2024 in China, represents a significant shift from the original Kaola, transitioning from an MPV to a compact SUV. Despite this change in classification, the external appearance of the Kaola S remains almost identical to its predecessor.
Both models share the same dimensions, namely 4,500mm length, 1,870mm width and 1,655mm height with a wheelbase of 2,820mm. The only notable external alteration is the change in colour scheme. The Kaola S no longer features black above the window line, but otherwise retains the MPV’s original design.
Moreover, one of the most significant updates in the Kaola S is its seating configuration. Unlike the original Kaola, which featured a 4-seater layout with two seats in the second row and a fold-out table for baby-related needs, the Kaola S now accommodates five passengers. This transition is complemented by a more conventional rear bench seat.
However, the Kaola S retains some of the family-friendly features of its predecessor, including an ultra-clean cockpit with minimal aldehydes and benzene, and an interior designed with organic antibacterial agents to ensure a baby-friendly environment. Inside, the Kaola S mirrors the original model’s tech features, boasting a 14.6-inch central infotainment screen.
On top of that, additional amenities include remote start, automatic climate control, keyless entry, and a panoramic roof. The cabin sports a sophisticated black-and-white colour scheme, with diamond-shaped quilting on the seats for added elegance. A key distinction of the Kaola S is the inclusion of a middle seat in the second row, though it lacks a headrest.
The car maintains a generous distance of 1,025mm between the front and rear rows, and an interior height of 1,245mm, making it suitable for families, particularly those with older children. The electric sliding door on the right-hand side remains, complemented by a low entry platform at 340mm, making it ideal for small children.
Powertrain specifications of the Kaola S remain unchanged from the original Kaola. It features a front-mounted 120kW electric motor delivering 240Nm of torque, with a CLTC range of 500km. The vehicle is powered by a 58.8kWh lithium iron phosphate battery from CATL, which can be charged from 30 to 80 percent in just 26 minutes. It also supports V2V and V2L charging.
