Renault To Subaru To Lotus Cars And Now Zeekr Cars

Reza Mutalib is the up and coming automotive prince in Malaysia with his latest brand, Zeekr Cars

Automotive group, ‘Karrus Automotive’ founder and owner, Mohamad Reza bin Abdul Mutalib is listed in the SSM profile as one of Sentinel Automotive’s directors which is the big news recently in the Malaysian automotive industry.

He is the person behind the introduction of Zeekr Electric Vehicles in Malaysia which made their surprise entry just recently on June 7th 2024.

En. Reza has built a deep and wide career in the automobile industry with a long standing experience of nearly 25 years in all aspects of the business of automobiles from direct responsibilities across varying functions in Proton, Nissan, Renault, Electric Vehicles, Grabcar, Subaru and Lotus.

He is also the founder and CEO of Karrus Automotive and Lotus Karz which are the sole and exclusive franchisors for Subaru vehicles and Lotus vehicles in Malaysia.

He and his team handle all of Subaru and Lotus sales, service and spare part requirements in Malaysia. He also sits on the board of Grabcar Sdn Bhd as an Executive Director.

Did you know that he was also a Founder and Director of First Energy Network, laying the foundation of electric vehicle infrastructure in Malaysia working with the relevant sectors in the Government for the deployment of electric vehicle charging infrastructure across the country when Tan Chong Group launched the first Nissan Leaf more than a decade ago in 2012?

Yes, back in May 2012, Tan Chong and En Reza were already looking at electric vehicles and with the first generation Nissan Leaf they also had a company ‘First Energy’ which was looking into deploying a charging network around the country.

meanwhile, in the official press release from Zeekr Global it says that Thailand will cooperate with multiple leading auto dealers to expand in the Thailand market. It continues to say that Zeekr plans to open its first store in Thailand in Bangkok this year and gradually expand sales and service network in cities including Chiang Mai, Phuket, Pattaya and others.

To provide the premium user experiences to Zeekr customers in Thailand, Zeekr has partnered with the most trusted local public EV charging service providers to offer easy and comfortable charging experience.

In the same press release, Zeekr Global mentions that they have previously announced sales plans for Southeast Asian markets including Singapore, the Philippines, Laos and Myanmar but there is NO MENTION of a Malaysian introduction.

We wonder why. Anyway, now we have confirmation that Zeekr Malaysia is ready and looks like it will be another rival for the already highly competitive premium EV segment in Malaysia.
