Base Porsche Macan EV Comes With RWD & 641km Range For RM430K

The all-new Porsche Macan family grows with a new entry-level RWD model coming in at RM430K.

Porsche is going all-out with their electric offensive and the model to take on the mass market is of course the all-new Macan. Authorised importer Sime Darby Auto Performance just previewed this compact SUV last month at the Porsche World Roadshow at the Sepang International Circuit. Now, the Porsche Macan family has been expanded on a global level prior to its official local launch, meaning you can probably order one of the new variants ahead of its introduction here.

The two new variants added to the family are the base model, known simply as the Macan and a mid-tier model known as the Macan 4S. Prior to this, only the Macan 4 and Macan Turbo were known to exist.

The Base Model Macan

The basic Porsche Macan is actually the most interesting variant in our opinion. This new Macan now serves as the entry into the Porsche brand and it’s a pure electric crossover SUV, which is an interesting look at how the Porsche brand is developing into the future. Unlike all the other new Macan variants, this is the only rear-wheel drive model. It’s no slouch either, with a single rear-mounted 340PS electric motor capable of overboosting to 360PS and 563Nm of torque. This variant of the Macan does the century sprint in a respectable 5.7 seconds, which is just a tenth of second slower than the base 718 delivered before it was discontinued. The top speed is 220km/h, which isn’t super impressive but is a little higher than what most EVs can offer.

What’s actually interesting about the base Macan isn’t its speed, but its range. Porsche were smart to leave in a 100kWh high-voltage battery as this has paired well with the weight-savings of losing a whole motor on the front axle. This base Macan is 110kg lighter than the model one rung above it and offers 28km longer range for a total of 641km on the WLTP cycle. That puts it just 4.4% behind the Mercedes-Benz EQE 350+ in terms of range while also offering 23% more power and being slightly faster to 100km/h from a standstill. What’s more interesting is that SDAP are offering the base Porsche Macan with the Recommended Retail Price of RM430,000, which is just 2.4% more expensive than the Mercedes.

Technically speaking, the Macan’s electric motor has a 480-amp pulse inverter which uses silicon carbide to make is super efficient, which explains the impressive range and performance.

The Other Sibling: The Macan 4S

The Macan 4S sits between the Macan 4 and the Macan Turbo. While the name implies it’s closely related to the Macan 4, it actually has a new 230mm rear-axle electric motor with a 600amp Silicon Carbide pulse inverter. The front axle motor is the same as the one used in the Macan 4 and the Macan Turbo. The total system output of the Macan 4S is 448PS, but with a temporary overboost it can achieve 516PS and 820Nm of torque, which enables a 0-100km/h sprint of just 4.1 seconds. Top speed of this model is 240km/h. Range is a little diminished, but still impressive at 606km.

The Porsche Macan 4S comes with Porsche Active Suspension Management (PASM) electronic damping control as standard and can be optioned with adaptive air suspension, Porsche Torque Vectoring Plus and rear axle steering.

What Else Is New?

Besides the two new variants, Porsche also introduced some other items for all Macan models:
