Continental Tyres Malaysia Integrates ContiSeal Technology Into More Tyre Types
Starting July 2024, UltraContact UC7, PremiumContact C and UltraContact UC6 SUV get ContiSeal across 16-20″ sizes.
While Goodyear recently announced a factory closure in Shah Alam, their competitor Continental Tyres Malaysia has decided to improve their product offering here. One of their unique technologies – ContiSeal, will be henceforth available on a wider range of tyre types and sizes.
What is ContiSeal technology?
ContiSeal technology has been around since 2003 and has been improved upon over the last 2 decades. This technology enables immediate sealing of 80% of all punctures and 99.9% of tyre punctures up to 5mm in diameter as they occur. ContiSeal is applied inside the tyre’s tread area and creates an airtight seal should a foreign object penetrate the tyre. This is not the same as runflat tyre technology and so the tyres still have the same comfort level as regular tyres.
Continental claims that ContiSeal doesn’t affect tyre performance should a puncture occur, which is not the case with runflat tyres. That being said, the company also hints that tyre cost is higher upfront with ContiSeal integrated. They also recommend using a Tyre Pressure Monitoring System and to check tyres regularly to ensure integrity and longevity. It’s also advised to inspect leaks to prevent moisture from entering the tyre through any puncture to prevent damage to the internal structure of the tyre.
Which Tyres Get ContiSeal Technology?
Continental Tyres Malaysia aims to bring ContiSeal technology to the following tyre models by this month:
- UltraContact UC7
- PremiumContact C
- UltraContact UC6 SUV
It will be available in sizes ranging from 16″ to 20″. They can be purchased on the official Shopee and Lazada e-commerce stores. It’s also worth noting that Continental Tyres Malaysia offers the Total Confidence Plan which includes 12-month road hazard coverage, 1-to-1 tyre replacements and an easy-to-use mobile app for one-stop solutions and claims. No price hikes were announced but we have yet to verify if pricing will remain unchanged.
