Honda Prelude Concept Shown In Red, Might Be Sold In Malaysia
The Honda Prelude Concept will be shown at Goodwood 2024.
Last year, Honda confirmed that the Prelude nameplate would be returning but was a bit shy on the details. All we learnt about the car when the company showed the white-painted concept model at the Japan Mobility Show 2023 was that it would be a 2-door and that it would be electrified in some way. Now Honda has shown a red coloured Prelude concept car and virtually nothing has changed. That being said, it looks very much close to production ready and there have been enough info drops and rumours over the years for Malaysians to be excited for the return of the Prelude.
The first thing we basically know at this point is that the new Prelude will not be fully-electric at launch but rather a hybrid of some sort. Our guess is that it will feature Honda’s e:HEV hybrid system as the company has already tried out other hybrid configurations before settling on this one. The other thing that’s confirmed is that it is engineered for both right-hand drive and left-hand drive configurations.
It is in fact confirmed for the European market and will come to this year’s Goodwood Festival of Speed, a strong indicator that it will be slated for UK release too. That might indicate that Japan and Malaysia will also receive the car, which is definitely a reason to be excited. That being said, the current Civic Type R is already RM400,000. How many Malaysian customers will be willing to buy a half a million Ringgit Honda even if it stacks up well against the current Toyota Supra?
Besides that there is a very small detail that is different on this red Prelude concept and that’s the red-painted brake calipers behind the black-painted 20″ rims. Normally, this isn’t worth pointing out but now that red paint makes it more obvious that the Prelude will get Brembo brakes.
We still don’t know what the interior looks like, so unless that’s what’s being shown at Goodwood, this might be the last you hear about the upcoming Prelude for a while.
