Geely’s Zeekr 7X EV Details Leak Ahead Of Official Debut

We’ve got more details on the upcoming all-electric Zeekr 7X.

Zeekr is already established in Malaysia, so we’re quite sure the company will soon start bringing in tax-free electric vehicles with a premium Geely flavour to our market. One of the possible entries is the 7X – a yet-to-be-released model that might arrive in time to fight off the upcoming facelifted Tesla Model Y.

The Zeekr 7X was actually officially shown just days ago and almost immediately, its specifications were exposed by Chinese regulators as the company had to apply for its sales license. Most of the information we got was gathered by reputable website CarNewsChina.

In terms of dimensions, here’s how the Zeekr 7X stacks up against its prime competitor:

Zeekr 7XTesla Model Y
Length (mm)48254751
Width (mm)19301921
Height (mm)16661624
Wheelbase (mm)29252890

If the specifications are accurate, this would make the Zeekr 7X just a smidge larger than the Model Y in its current form. Things may change with the facelift Model Y though. In terms of power, the Zeekr 7X will feature 3 powertrain options – single motor versions come with a 416hp motor with an entry-level 75kWh LiFePo battery. The mid spec model gets a 100kWh ternary NMC battery while the top spec model appears to have a dual-motor all-wheel drive model good for 637hp with the same 100kWh battery.

Range figures were not shared but given that its 007 sedan sibling features similar powertrain layouts, we can assume that the base model will return about 688km, with the mid-spec capable of 870km and the top end performance model delivering 770km, all on the lenient CLTC protocol. Still impressive considering it weighs between 2298-2475kg and can tow up to 2000kg.

The powertrain of the SEA-based 7X SUV stays in line with the Zeekr 007 sedan. It has three options to choose from.

  • RWD, 310 kW (416 hp), 75 kWh LFP battery from VREMT (Geely subsidiary)
  • RWD, 310 kW (416 hp), 100 kWh ternary NMC battery from CATL-Geely JV
  • RWD, 475 kW (637 hp), 100 kWh ternary NMC battery from CATL-Geely JV

In China, the 7X will be offered with a choice of 8 rims in both 19 inch and 20 inch form. Besides that, Zeekr are also offering air suspension and a roof-mounted LiDAR sensor. This last optional accessory might indicate that this may be one of those rare EVs with some safety features hidden away behind a “pay wall”. Most other EVs tend not to skimp heavily on their safety package.

The Zeekr 7X will be made in Meishan, in Sichuan alongside the 007 on the PMA2+ platform, derived from the SEA platform. The only question is when it’s coming to Malaysia and will it arrive before the new Model Y and other Chinese alternatives like the BYD Sea Lion 07.
