DBKL To Introduce New Traffic Compound Rates For Illegal Parking

Those who like to park where they shouldn’t and cause traffic should stop but will they?

We all know that in Malaysia, there are more cars than people. Obviously, this has led to a problem where there is never enough space for parking, particularly in the city centre (and of course, the never ending crawling traffic jam). Because of this, so many drivers tend to park in illegal spots and inconvenience others. Well, this may stop soon.

Starting today, 1 July 2024, DBKL is introducing new traffic compound rates for people who park their vehicles like this. Hopefully, this is enough to deter people from inconveniencing others with their selfishness, but I have a feeling that most will simply opt to pay the new compound rates anyway, no surprise there.

Moreover, the new traffic compound rates are divided into 3 categories for vehicles, specifically motorcycles, cars and heavy vehicles, and 3 more categories for payment duration. Let’s review the rates for motorcycles first. Those who pay within the first 1 to 15 days, the rate is RM30, RM50 for those paying within 16 to 30 days and RM80 for those paying from 31 to 60 days.

As for cars, the rates are as follows, RM50 for those paying between the first 1 to 15 days, RM80 for those paying within the first 16 to 30 days and RM100 for drivers who pay within the first 31 to 60 days. Now if at this point, one begins thinking, well that isn’t that much, well, I agree, well, I think it is a lot, but I don’t think it’s enough to deter anyone from parking where they shouldn’t.

On top of that, the new traffic compound rates for heavy vehicles are RM200 for those who pay within the first 1 to 15 days, RM250 for those who pay within the first 16 to 30 days and lastly RM300 for those who pay the rates between the first 31 to 60 days. Yeah, I too am not sure how effective this will be but I can guess.

So what do you guys think about these new traffic compound rates? Are they too little or do you think the rates are substantial enough to deter people from parking their vehicles where they shouldn’t? I definitely don’t think so, but do let us know what you think as well and please, do not park where you shouldn’t, no matter what.
