Chery Malaysia Unveils Integration Plans And Investment Milestones

Chery Malaysia is poised to significantly deepen its involvement in the Malaysian economy through ambitious initiatives ranging from establishing local production facilities to introducing research and development centres in the country. During a recent visit to Malaysia, Zhang Guibing, President of Chery International, outlined the company’s strategic plans, saying, “While China predominantly uses left-hand drive vehicles, Malaysia offers a unique opportunity for us to cater to right-hand drive markets.” Zhang emphasised this during the launch of Chery Corporate Malaysia’s plant in Shah Alam, Selangor.
Moreover, Zhang expressed Chery’s long-term vision of fostering strong partnerships with local stakeholders, generating significant job opportunities for Malaysians, and introducing advanced automotive technologies to the local market. These efforts, he stressed, aim to enhance Chery’s operational foundation in Malaysia, ensuring high standards of quality and efficiency.
In a substantial commitment to Malaysia’s automotive sector, Chery Malaysia also announced a RM1 billion investment aligned with Malaysia’s New Industrial Master Plan 2030 in November 2023. This investment shows the brand’s confidence in the country’s economic policies and its commitment to fostering growth and innovation in the automotive industry.
On top of that, Minister of Investment, Trade and Industry Tengku Datuk Seri Utama Zafrul Tengku Abdul Aziz recently shared positive outcomes from Chery’s investment, noting the establishment of a new assembly plant in Shah Alam that will create 500 initial jobs, with plans to expand to at least 1,000 positions.
By collaborating closely with local vendors and suppliers, Chery aims to optimise component costs while demonstrating the capabilities of local suppliers to meet international standards. Acknowledging the dedication of Malaysian athletes, Chery Malaysia also announced a collaboration with the MSN to support athletes participating in the upcoming Paris Games.
What’s more, medal winners will be rewarded with Chery vehicles. Gold medallists will receive the Tiggo 8 Pro, silver medallists the all-electric Omoda E5, and bronze medallists the Tiggo 7 Pro. This partnership shows the brand’s commitment to supporting Malaysian sports and celebrating the achievements of its athletes on an international stage.
