Which SUV To Consider Tomorrow On A RM128k Budget

The SUV you might want to buy at the price that fits your budget

Just last week Chery Malaysia shocked the market with the introduction of their latest SUV and its a direct rival to the Proton X70 in many ways plus selling price. Let us explain in detail.

Here below we share the specification and details of both vehicles for your consideration, starting with the prices, the Chery Tiggo 7 Pro comes in only 1 variant costing RM123,800 and the top spec 1.5 premium Proton X70 costs the same amount while the 1.8-litre X70 premium costs RM128,000. To keep things fair, we will focus on the 1.5 Premium version of the X70.

Moreover, the differences between the Tiggo 7 Pro and the Proton X70 1.5 premium are very minor, so adding a higher displacement engine  which will only add a difference to road tax costs will only make things less interesting. Speaking of which, for the exact same price, both SUVs offer exceptional value, so the choice is really very subjective.

In terms of size, the Chery Tiggo 7 Pro measures 4,513mm in length, 1,862mm in width, 1,696mm in height and has a wheelbase of 2,670mm with a ground clearance of 175mm. Meanwhile, the Proton X70 measures 4,519mm in length, 1,831mm in width and 1,694mm in height and boasts a wheelbase of 2,670mm and has a ground clearance of 200mm.

On top of that, both feature modern and tech packed interiors with touchscreens, USB ports and everything else we have become accustomed to in modern cars but the main difference is that while the Tiggo 7 Pro comes with Wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, the Proton X70, famously does not. The ADAS 2.5 suite of safety systems in the Tiggo 7 Pro is also a nice touch.

Design is subjective so you, the reader, can decide which looks better, but it is no secret that the X70 much older in our market and we have gotten very used to how it looks. However, with a facelift just around the corner, this may change. Oh, and for those who like sunroofs, the Tiggo 7 Pro comes with a full length sunroof as well.

So with a budget of RM128k, which one of these family SUVs is your pick?
