Nissan GT-R Discontinued In North America

The Nissan GT-R loses relevance in yet another market after 17 years.

The electric car revolution is finding many victims. The first to go were the affordable sportscars. Now the legendary Nissan GT-R is getting axed, at least in North America.

End Of An Era

Endearingly referred to as Godzilla, the Nissan GT-R has been around in its current form since 2007 and at 17 years of age, it’s finally starting to lose its relevance. Electric cars are simply faster for less money. That being said, Nissan has done a very good job keeping the car updated and it has never been too far behind its newer and more advanced rivals from Europe. In fact, we personally think it’s amazing that Nissan was able to keep their performance halo vehicle alive throughout its worst years – something none of its Japanese peers managed to do as consistently.

The Nissan GT-R has slowly been taken out of circulation around the world. It’s already absent from Nissan showrooms in Europe and in Australia due to regulation incompatibility. 2024 will be the final year for the Nissan GT-R in the North American market and to send it off, there are two limited edition models – the T.Spec Takumi Edition and the Skyline Edition.

Special Editions

The T.Spec Takumi Edition honours the master craftspeople that assemble the GT-R’s 3.8L V6 by hand.

It gets:

  • an engine badge with red-etched writing
  • a gold VIN plate
  • Midnight Purple paint job
  • Mori Green interior trim

  • NISMO Carbon Ceramic brakes
  • gold-plated RAYS 20″ forged wheels
  • NISMO-tuned Vehicle Dynamic Control
  • Wider front fenders

The Skyline Edition pays tribute to the vehicle that formed the basis of the GT-Rs of yore. It is finished exclusively in Bayside Blue – the R34 Skyline’s signature colour, made even more popular when featured in the Fast & Furious film series.

This model is based on the Nissan GT-R Premium spec and also comes with a new Sora Blue interior colour scheme.

No successor to the GT-R has been announced by Nissan yet but our guess is that if it indeed gets a successor, the new GT-R will be electrified to a certain degree.
