Chery shows its iCar rugged crossover at 2024 Beijing Auto Show
This Chery sub-brand was first introduced on April 2023 in Shanghai. At its brand launch there were two models shown, the 03 SUV and the GT concept. iCAR marketers say that they will provide intelligent driving experiences in a variety of scenarios with the i-MS multi-dimensional new energy architecture and i-VA ecology.
The i-VA, a virtual character and iCAR’s operating system will bring users a fully digital automotive experience.
iCAR has established an ecosystem alliance with leading technology companies, including CATL, Tencent, JD, Alibaba Cloud Intelligence and others to provide intelligent driving experiences for users.
The iCAR brand is aimed at the younger generation. Bao Siyu, CEO of iCAR, said the brand has planned six models for the market.
Interestingly, this iCar V23 has been developed by Chery in partnership with Zhimi Technology who happens to be owned by smartphone designer and manufacturer Xiaomi.
Zhimi’s team is reportedly going to be responsible for planning and engineering, with Chery handling manufacturing, supply chain, sales, delivery and after-sales.
Chery’s iCar sub-brand showed its second model, the V23. It’s a battery-electric 4×4 aimed at young buyers, putting a futuristic twist on classic designs such as as the Jeep Wrangler, Mercedes-Benz G-Class and Land Rover Defender.
This compact G-Class look-alike measures 4220mm long, 1915mm wide and 1845mm tall on a 2730mm wheelbase.
It has an approach angle of 43 degrees, a departure angle of 41 degrees and, in all-wheel drive guise, ground clearance of 212mm.
Will be arriving in showrooms with both single-motor rear-wheel drive and dual-motor all-wheel drive configurations with battery packs sourced from CATL, offering range of up to 500km and 400km respectively.
