It’s worth remembering that the Infiniti QX80 was once sold here in Malaysia.
Back in 2015, Infiniti was on sale in Malaysia and they brought in their flagship – the QX80. This was a gargantuan SUV made to do battle with the Lexus LX570 and thus it was outfitted with a 5.6L V8 petrol motor good for 405 horsepower and 560Nm of torque.
Priced at RM799,000, very few units were sold and you can pick up one up today used but not abused for about 30% of the original selling price. Now the QX80 is finally getting not just a facelift but a new generation and despite Infiniti’s exit from our market, we are still tickled by the prospect of having this massive luxo-barge in our garage.
The first thing to note about this all-new 2025 Infiniti QX80 is that it is only available with a turbocharged V6 powerplant.
This actually means an increase in output to 450 horsepower but a drop in displacement to a reasonable 3.5L. This means that the annual road tax is no longer around RM5,800 but a much more reasonable RM2,400 instead.
The VR35DDTT engine feature variable valve timing and is paired to a 9-speed automatic transmission with a 40% wider gear ratio range. This ensures optimum responsiveness and fuel efficiency at any speed. All-wheel drive, Electronic Air Suspension, Dynamic Digital suspension are all optional.
The new Infiniti QX80 also gets huge luxury and tech upgrades to keep it up to par with the latest Land Cruiser and LX.
Features include:
- Twin 14.3″ displays
- Additional 9″ touchscreen for climate control
- Colour heads-up display
- 64-colour ambient lighting
- USB-C fast charging ports for every row
- Optional cool box
- Ultra-wide camera angles and Invisible Hood View with 3D Enhanced AroundView Monitor
- Klipsch audio system in either 12-speaker 600W or 24-speaker 1200W set-ups
Despite all of these improvements and the refined redesign of the Infiniti QX80, it should be noted that the car will likely never come to our shores. Not only has Infiniti packed up and left the Malaysian market, it’s also quite certain that the QX80 doesn’t have the attention of the typical Lexus LX or Toyota Land Cruiser customer here for the grey market to step in.
