Double World Car Award Winner, Kia EV9 Open For Booking In Malaysia

Kia EV9 now open for booking in Malaysia, Estimated to cost around RM450,000

The highly anticipated Kia EV9 is now officially available for booking in Malaysia, with its launch estimated to take place in May 2024. Priced around RM450,000, this all-electric three-row SUV promises to redefine the driving experience for Malaysian consumers.

The Kia EV9 is offered in two variants in Thailand. That being said, we’re not sure what the spec will be like in Malaysia. In Thailand, both variants are equipped with a powerful 99.8-kWh lithium-ion battery pack. These models boast impressive charging capabilities, with the ability to DC fast charge at a maximum of 350 kW. This means a 10-80% state of charge (SoC) can be achieved in just 24 minutes.

In Thailand the base model offers a range of 680 km (NEDC) and is powered by a rear-mounted electric motor that delivers 204 PS and 350 Nm of torque. This configuration allows the EV9 to accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in 9.4 seconds and reach a top speed of 185 km/h. The top spec model is the GT-Line AWD with 385PS and 700Nm of torque. This one does the century sprint in just 5.3 seconds and still has a respectable range of 647 km.

In addition to its impressive performance and range, the Kia EV9 also boasts a versatile vehicle-to-load (V2L) system, capable of outputting up to 3.58 kW to power electrical accessories and devices, further enhancing its usability and convenience.

The Kia EV9’s remarkable achievements have not gone unnoticed, as the vehicle has recently secured prestigious titles at the 2024 World Car Awards. Recognized as both the World Car of the Year and the World Electric Vehicle, the EV9 was praised by the jury for its innovative design, spacious seven-seat interior, and competitive pricing.

While very impressive, the Kia EV9 looks to be the most expensive EV sold in Malaysia without a premium badge. How will it be received? Only time will tell.
