Chery gives the public an update on the Omoda 5 brake complaint that went viral last week.
Last week, a video went viral shared by a Chery Omoda 5 customer. The video depicted a brake issue with the customer’s car. Before the end of the weekend, Chery Auto Malaysia responded, taking the customer’s car in for evaluation and giving her a courtesy car. Now, less than a week later we have the follow up from Chery Auto Malaysia regarding the customer’s Omoda 5 unit.

Press Statement by Chery Auto Malaysia Sdn Bhd Regarding OMODA 5 Viral Complaint
Chery Auto Malaysia is pleased to provide an update to our customers and the public on the latest developments regarding a viral complaint (6 April 2024) circulating online from a Chery OMODA 5 customer.
Since then (6 April 2024), our customer care team has been in close contact with the customer and have kept her updated while our highly skilled technical team conducted a thorough investigation on her vehicle which she claimed had faulty brakes.
Additionally, the vehicle was also sent to Puspakom, whereby a comprehensive examination was conducted by the vehicle inspection company, for an impartial assessment. At Puspakom, the 10-point inspection was performed, which includes a brake test, to evaluate efficiency, dynamic imbalance, run-out, residual force, and parking brake to ensure optimal braking performance.
All inspections carried out by both Chery Auto Malaysia’s team and Puspakom have returned no adverse findings, confirming that the said vehicle is indeed safe, and the brake system is of satisfactory as indicated in the Puspakom test result.
The customer has been informed and our team has explained to her of the results. We have also provided her with a comprehensive report detailing the findings of all our inspections. The Chery OMODA 5, a global vehicle which was globally introduced in April 2023, has sold over 130,000 units (excluding China) up to March 2024. In Malaysia, the Chery OMODA 5 has been awarded the Editor’s Choice Best Mid-Size Crossover/SUV award by The Star’s Carsifu, Best 5-seater SUV from Carlist Malaysia and has also received the honourable Outstanding Warranty Award from Malaysia International Moto Expo 2023.
