Why Modern Car Door Handles Break Easily

Can We Live With Broken Outside And Inside Car Door Handles

Should car door handles that fall apart or break of completely be considered normal wear and tear, or should car manufacturers replace them for free or decide on a recall?

Right now there are many new exterior car door handles coming apart one by one and some are even going brittle after 4 to 5 years of use.

Car Door Handles

Look at any car older than 25 years or so and you will see that the door handles were made of solid steel and they very very very seldom broke. It is fact that car manufacturers are trying very hard to make cars lighter with reduced cost of production and steel adds weight and cost, so car manufacturers have decided in the last 2 decades or so to start using lighter materials like plastic.

Meanwhile, newer car owners (3 to 5 years old) with broken door handles have tried making a warranty claim and from our research they have failed in getting a new door handle.

Interestingly, the only solution has been to BUY from online websites and pay out of pocket.

So, why are some car manufacturers not giving a warranty on your exterior and interior door handle? Is there a limited use put on these door handles? Say 10,000 times of use or less?

We believe that new car buyers with broken and brittle door handles should have their door handles replaced during the car warranty period. After the warranty, then it is a different story.

Yes, door handles are a wear and tear part, like your power window, steering rack, car suspension, brake system, AC system and so on. But this is a very important safety feature as well. Imagine in an unwanted accident and you need to get out of your car and your door handle breaks?

Imagine in the same car accident, the driver is unconscious and the emergency services need to open the door and get the injured driver out of the car? The door handle breaks off and the emergency crew waste time in using other methods to extract the injured passengers. Precious seconds wasted because of a broken door handle could cost dearly?

So, its time that car manufacturers step up and warranty a car door handle, inside and outside. Share with us your thoughts on this issue.
