Will UAZ see more or less success this year in car manufacturing?
In the calendar year 2023, the Ulyanovsky Avtomobilny Zavod (UAZ) has achieved commendable success by ramping up its car production to a total of 39,453 units. This is a notable increase of 15 percent compared to the previous year and is a substantial boost in production for UAZ and also marks the company’s most robust sales performance in the last four years.
As reported by the company, Russian UAZ dealers experienced a commendable 9 percent increase in sales, culminating in a total of 37,412 cars sold. The noteworthy growth in production and sales can be attributed in large part to the stellar performance of the SGR family of commercial vehicles, which accounted for an impressive 14,745 units.
Moreover, among individual models, the flagship UAZ Patriot SUV emerged as a clear favourite among consumers, with 11,853 buyers opting for this particular model while the Profi light truck followed closely behind, boasting an impressive 5,198 units in sales, while the Pickup truck secured 4,579 units.
The traditional Hunter SUV rounded out the top five with 1,037 units sold. Beyond the domestic market triumphs, the brand has made substantial inroads into the international arena, achieving sales of 1,840 vehicles in foreign markets.
On top of that, these sales were distributed across various regions, including the territories of satellite states in the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS), as well as countries in Asia, Africa, the Middle East, and South and Central America.
The positive trajectory of UAZ’s performance aligns seamlessly with broader trends observed in the Russian automotive market. Notably, the company’s achievement unfolds against the backdrop of a robust growth trend in new passenger car sales across Russia.
In January 2024 alone, UAZ witnessed an extraordinary 77.3 percent surge in annual sales, with a total of 80,212 new passenger cars sold. This remarkable increase represents a significant upswing compared to the sales figures recorded in January 2023.
As UAZ continues to demonstrate notable growth in both production and sales, it underscores the brand’s resilience and appeal, not only in the domestic market but also on the international stage.
The success of flagship models like the UAZ Patriot SUV and the strategic emphasis on commercial vehicles, exemplified by the SGR family, play crucial roles in contributing to the overall positive performance of the company.
Looking forward, UAZ appears well-positioned to capitalize on its current momentum, offering consumers a diverse range of vehicles and maintaining its status as a significant player in the automotive industry.
