Peugeot E-5008 Debuts And Might Be Assembled In Malaysia Soon

The Peugeot E-5008 is the rare electric vehicle with a large carrying capacity and long range.

When it comes to electric vehicles, almost every mainstream offering is a 5-seater and many even break the 500km barrier in terms of WLTP rated range. That all changes today with the introduction of the Peugeot E-5008 – a car with 7 seats that can drive 660km on a single charge. What’s more, Malaysians should actually be excited for this vehicle. Stellantis has the Gurun plant set up to assemble vehicles for the region, so it might be receiving CKD packs from the Sochaux plant for South East Asian markets.

While the new Peugeot E-5008 bears some resemblance to the silhouette of the Peugeot 5008 this is a completely new generation of vehicle. The 3008 and 5008 received a hybrid powertrain upgrade last year, but has not been given a generational update yet and still sits on an older PSA-era EMP2 platform.

The E-5008 is based on the new STLA Medium platform and is the first vehicle on this platform to use an extended configuration. The enlarged 2.9 meter wheelbase houses the drive battery, which is made in France and comes with a standard 8-year/160,000km warranty.

Besides the impressive 660km range that this nickel-manganese-cobalt battery delivers, it’s also pretty impressive in terms of charging time. It’s able to recover from 20% to 80% in just 30 minutes, or 100km of range in 10 minutes with 160kW DC fast charging. 11kW AC charging is standard on the Peugeot E-5008, but this can be optionally upgraded to 22kW.

The Peugeot E-5008 will be offered in the Allure or GT trim and there will be a 210hp base model, a 230hp long range model and a 320hp dual motor model.

Even though the STLA Medium platform is “BEV-by-design”, the E-5008 will also be offered with hybrid powertrains. The first is the “136 e-DCS6” model which features a 136hp 1.2L 4-cylinder petrol engine, a 48V hybrid system and a 6-speed dual clutch transmission.

This powertrain can operate in 100% electric mode half the time, according to Peugeot. The second is the “195 e-DCS7” model which features a 92kW electric motor, a 195hp 1.6L 4-cylinder petrol engine in a plug in hybrid system capable of 80km of electric driving.

The Peugeot E-5008 features an evolved design with a high beltline, pronounced shoulders, and a new light signature and front grille look with a balck band that wraps around the front of the car and integrates with the LED headlights.

Pixel LED headlights, geometric technical design rims in large sizes, and a 21″ Panoramic i-Cockpit floating screen characterize the car’s most high-tech design features. Besides that, the Peugeot E-5008 uses 500kg of green materials, including sustainable steel and aluminium, plus recycled plastic for the bumpers, deflectors, storage bins and carpets.
