MG Vehicles Steal The Spotlight At The Geneva International Motor Show

MG has already launched 2 vehicles here, when will these other models arrive?

MG unveiled a range of impressive models at the global debut event, including the global debut of the MG3 HEV, the world’s first convertible electric sports car MG Cyberster, the European pure electric compact car sales champion MG4 EV, the B-class four door coupe MG7, the medium-to-large-sized hatchback electric sedan MG9, and the medium-to-large-sized pure electric coupe SUV MGS9.

MG

MG is a British automotive brand that is currently under China’s SAIC Motor and the brand recently made a comeback here in Malaysia after a long hiatus with not one, but two electric vehicles (EVs), namely the MG4 and the MG ZS EV, so now that we have these 2 cars, will we be seeing the rest of the lineup from the Motor show too?

Moreover, the MG3 HEV, which is planned for launch in Europe first, features new Hybrid Plus technology, ensuring superior performance compared to competitors in the same class. This car might just be the most viable option for the Malaysian market too given its size and hatchback body style.

The MG3 HEV offers an electrified driving experience that rivals pure electric vehicles. With 195hp acceleration, it stands out in its class. Its WLTP cycle fuel consumption is as low as 4.4 liters per 100 km, and it emits just 100 grams of carbon dioxide per km. Will this be enough for it to sell here in Malaysia?

The new three-speed automatic transmission provides excellent Noise Vibration and Harshness (NVH) performance. The MG3 HEV is expected to become another global hit for SAIC Motor after MG4 EV. That model is already here but since the car only debuted last week, it is too soon to determine its sales success for now.

MG

On top of that, as a pioneer in Chinese automotive globalization, MG brand achieved global sales of more than 840,000 vehicles in 2023, ranking as the top Chinese single brand in overseas sales for the fifth consecutive year. With this, it is safe to say that the brand should also do quite well in Malaysia this time around.

MG celebrates its centenary this year and is aiming for a worldwide annual sales figure of One million, so now we ask, will the brand bring in the HEV next? Will the brand focus solely on EVs here in Malaysia or will they diversify their portfolio with petrol options too.
