Always be sure what gear you are in when driving to avoid being like this driver
A scary accident (or Fast and Furious-esque stunt, depending on how you see it) took place in which a driver who, for lack of a better word, we shall just call careless, ended up accidentally pressing a bit too hard on the accelerator and ended up going straight through the wall of a second floor high rise car park. Let’s talk about it.
So what happened here is that the female driver accidentally stepped on the gas in the indoor parking lot which caused the car to crash through the wall on the second floor and fly out the outside. It then hit the ground and overturned and the driver suffered head and knee injuries and was taken to hospital for treatment but lived.
Moreover, this driver is indeed very lucky because if she had not been wearing her seat belt, she likely would have suffered far worse and may have even kicked the bucket. Honestly accidents like this tend to be rare due to the over the top nature of them but they still happen far too often for my liking.
While this accident is actually a far more extreme version of a more common accident that became a safety feature some cars implemented in their newer vehicles. I am, of course, talking about mindlessly stepping on the accelerator when in the wrong gear. Because of this, pedal misoperation mitigation became a thing.
For those who do not know what this is exactly, then the quick version of what it is is that the car will use its sensors (both front and back) to determine how close the car is to a wall or obstacle and automatically brake the car when the sensors pick up something close to the sensors.
On top of that, if more drivers were just more mindful and aware when driving, then accidents like this would not happen as often. Of course, I don’t wish to speculate and pretend to know what was running through the driver’s head when she did run through the wall but I hope she is less absent minded moving forward.
For the rest of our readers, I implore all of you to always stay alert and ensure your car is in the correct gear when driving so you can avoid me writing about you in the future. We here at DSF also hope the driver in this accident makes a speedy recovery.
