The Mazda CX-70 is an all-new 5-seater SUV with 6-cylinder electrified powertrain options.
Back in late 2021, Mazda announced they would be dramatically expanding their line-up of SUVs and one of the named models was the CX-70. This new model was revealed today and it slots between the CX-60 and CX-90 while being more related to the latter, sharing a platform but seating just 5 instead of 7 and sportier styling.
The first-ever Mazda CX-70 will be built on the brand’s large platform and will only feature electrified powertrains – either the e-SkyActiv G 3.3L inline 6 turbo mild hybrid or the e-SkyActiv G 2.5L inline 4 PHEV
The CX-70 features black accents instead of chrome, leading to a more sporty look than the larger CX-90.
This includes a black finishing for the mesh on the front grille, 21″ wheels (dual tone), wing mirror caps, roof rails, and door handles. The CX-70 also gets different looking front and rear bumpers versus the CX-90.
The Mazda CX-70 can be ordered with red Nappa leather which also comes with red contrast stitching on the rest of the cabin. There are loads of options for the interior including gray metallic inlays.
Equipment levels are pretty high and you can get the CX-70 with remote folding rear seats, Cruising & Traffic Support, Unresponsive Driver Support and Alexa integration.
It’s unlikely Malaysia will see the introduction of this new CX-70 though. Bermaz is pretty cautious about introducing models that will be priced over RM200,000 – which is big “price hurdle” most Malaysian buyers find difficult to justify for Japanese brands.
The CX-70 also seems to be more of a North American product, so until a Japanese or Australian version is put into production, there’s no use even hoping for CBU models to be brought in.
For now, the newly facelifted CX-5 and the 3-row CX-8 will continue to be the best options for the Malaysian market as they are competitively priced with proven powertrains and appealing designs.
