Shell, KPD And Scania Collaborate To Reduce CO2 Emissions

Shell, KPD and Scania introduce B100 Biodiesel for greater sustainability

Shell Malaysia Trading Sdn. Bhd. (Shell) has officially launched the pilot test of the first pair of Scania road tankers, operated by Konsortium Port Dickson Sdn Bhd (KPD), which will operate using B100 Biodiesel and further push sustainability and reduce carbon emissions in the country.

The launch was held at Stesen Minyak Alisha, Shah Alam, Selangor and the ceremony was officiated by Mr. Shairan Huzani Husain, Managing Director of Shell Malaysia Trading and witnessed by Ms. Heba Eltarifi, Managing Director of Scania Southeast Asia, Mr. David Lantz, Driving The Shift Director of Scania Southeast Asia and Mr. Richard Tee Chu Wong, Managing Director of Konsortium Port Dickson Sdn Bhd.

Moreover, supported by the Malaysian Palm Oil Board (MPOB) and the Ministry of Plantation Industries and Commodities (MPIC), Shell is collaborating with Scania and KPD to pilot test the road tankers in an effort to lower carbon emissions Once the tests yield the results the three companies are looking for, we are in for a treat.

Ms. Heba also stated, “Long-term decarbonisation of transportation depends on electrification. Alternatively, switching to renewable fuels from fossil fuels can drastically lower carbon emissions in vehicles with internal combustion engines to help companies achieve Environmental, Social and Governance (ESG) goals.”

All Scania diesel vehicles that are sold in Malaysia are FAME-prepared to operate on any blend of biodiesel, ranging from B10 to B100.” She added.

On top of that, Scania is the first brand to make it a standard for all its vehicles to be FAME-prepared up to B100 from 2019. The purpose is to drive the shift towards a sustainable transport system as part of the Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi). This makes this brand the perfect choice to test the new B100 biodiesel in the real world.

With over 25 years of development, Scania offers the broadest range of engines available on the market that are suitable for running on both renewable and fossil fuels to help achieve carbon reduction, as set in SBTi, and Biodiesel100 is one of them, let’s see how far it takes sustainability.

Founded in 2001, KPD is one of the key players in delivering oil and gas products, such as petrol, diesel, fuel oil, base oil, lubricant oil, industrial gas, oleo chemical and POME (ingredient for biodiesel) for Shell Malaysia using Scania trucks and this shows the initiative from both parties and their commitment to reducing carbon emissions.
