While the new Countryman gets a pure ICE JCW treatment, the new MINI Cooper SE EV gets just JCW trim.
The upcoming electric MINI Cooper SE will be available with John Cooper Works (JCW) trim pieces as revealed today. In terms of performance, this is no different from the standard Cooper SE model being offered. There’s still a 218hp, 330Nm of torque electric motor, still a 54.2kWh battery with 402km of range on the WLTP test cycle. What’s different is the sportier look offered by the JCW trim pieces.
This is a little bit confusing, considering MINI has also shown a high-performance, petrol powered JCW Countryman that proves the next generation of MINI vehicles can be adapted for both ICE and EV use. Perhaps there’s a JCW Cooper in the works as well. So this version is for customers who want an EV that looks like it could be a high-performance petrol model we suppose.
What’s New On The MINI Cooper SE with JCW Trim?
The distinctive John Cooper Works logo, characterized by crisp outlines, prominently stands out in its classic red, white, and black color palette. This emblem is complemented by a symbolic chequered flag on the octagonal front grille, creating a visually striking design.
The MINI Cooper SE in JCW Trim exudes a powerful presence, accentuated by 18-inch wheels in Lap Spoke 2-tone design, featuring ten spokes each and eye-catching red JCW brake calipers. Sporty bonnet stripes further underscore its athletic character.
In its JCW Trim, the MINI Cooper SE comes standard with prominent front and rear diffusers, a high-gloss black finish on the radiator grille surround and logo, and captivating visual elements such as a contrasting roof and Chilli Red mirror caps.
The MINI LED headlights showcase unique light signatures, with the JCW signature displaying two horizontal stripes as daytime running lights, emphasizing the minimalist design of the new MINI Cooper SE. Matrix rear lights with distinctive graphics contribute to the vehicle’s rear width perception.
The interior of the JCW Trim is inspired by racing aesthetics, featuring seats combining synthetic leather with red stitching and multi-colored knitted material on the shoulder section. The black and red color scheme extends to the 2d-knit covering the door interiors and dashboard, with the passenger side adorned with a JCW-specific pattern resembling a chequered flag.
A central high-resolution OLED display, measuring 240 mm in diameter, consolidates vehicle-related information, including navigation, media, telephone, and climate settings. The MINI Experience Modes offer personalized options, such as the John Cooper Works-inspired GO-KART Mode, which transforms the display and interior lighting into anthracite red. Alongside a special GO-KART sound, this mode enhances the sporty driving experience with an optimized throttle response.
