Does the PLUS advisory even change in any way every year? Let’s see
It’s the most wonderful time of the year again and as social media has been speculating, Mariah Carey has, indeed, already defrosted along with Michael Buble. As such, we have a new PLUS advisory to go along with this festive season. Is it any different from last year or the last festive season, though? Let’s find out.
So, PLUS Malaysia Berhad (PLUS) expects an increase in traffic of up to 2 million vehicles per day on its operating highways, especially during peak days in conjunction with the school holidays, Christmas and New Year celebrations. No surprise there, as holiday seasons often see packed highways in Malaysia anyway.
Moreover, in line with the increased traffic on the roads and highways, PLUS advises the public to plan their journey through the My-TTA digital timetable in the PLUS Application. It will also activate Smart lane routes at some critical locations along its operational highways to help ease congestion along these roads.
This is just the first part of the PLUS advisory and it goes on to announce that the company is being proactive and taking other steps to ease the traffic congestion as well as adding more PLUSRonda crew to make highway patrols go smoother despite the added volume of cars on the road.
PLUS has also announced it will temporarily suspend all maintenance work on its roads between 20 December 2023 and 1 January 2024 with exceptions for emergency works that require immediate action. This is definitely the best move taken as it will do the most to reduce the traffic on the roads.
On top of that, PLUS has also stationed some 4,600 staff among its toll booths, PLUSRonda staff, maintenance staff, traffic monitoring centre and RELA staff. This will ensure that despite the increased number of cars on the road, the flow of traffic will be smooth and uninterrupted.
Naturally, PLUS has also ensured it will prepare the latest traffic updates through the My-TTA application. These updates will also be made available on the road via the electronic sign displays along the highways, PLUS application, radio stations as well as social media accounts so drivers are always up to date.
So is this really any different from last year or the last festive season? Well, not really. Every festive season begets more or less the same PLUS advisories and the same things done to alleviate the traffic. So just keep note of this when travelling for the holidays and drive safely, Malaysia.
