With Zeekr already beginning deliveries in Europe, can we expect it here soon?
Chinese automaker, Zeekr, which is under the Geely brand has just delivered its first car in Europe, handing over the keys for a 001 shooting brake model to a customer at its new Hi-Tech Service Center in Zeist, Netherlands. Since the brand has already begun deliveries in Europe, will it come to Malaysia soon?
Zeekr started accepting pre-orders for the 001 Shooting Brake in the Netherlands and Sweden on 28 June 2023 and 35 days later, the first European models started to roll off the production line. This leads one to wonder why things need to be so slow in Malaysia when other countries can do everything quickly.
Moreover, the first Zeekr 001 delivered is the flagship Privilege AWD variant and present at the handover was Zeekr Europe chief executive Spiros Fotinos, chief commercial officer Lothar Schupet, and head of sales for the Netherlands, Marc Bras.
Prices for the Zeekr 001 also start from €59,490 (about RM302,828) for the single motor Long Range version and jump to €62,490 (around RM318,100) for the dual-motor Performance AWD and €67,490 (approximately RM343,552) for the Privilege AWD. These are pretty steep prices so let’s see if they can work here.
The latter variant also sports a pair of electric motors that produce a combined 536hp (400 kW) and 686Nm of torque, allowing it to hit 100 km/h from standstill in just 3.8 seconds and has up to 580km of range. The electric vehicle (EV) also supports fast charging and its battery can be topped up from 0 to 80 percent in 30 minutes.
At the handover ceremony, Fotinos stated, “We’ve recently opened our first European Zeekr Center in Stockholm and, in just a few days, Amsterdam. Now we are happy to hand over our first vehicle internationally, here, in the Netherlands.”
“This is very proud moment for all of us, and we’re delighted to see the first of many customers in Europe experiencing for themselves what makes Zeekr unique. We are committed to making the transition to full electric simple, seamless, and effortless, not when e-mobility becomes an obligation, but right now, so that we can all contribute to a more sustainable future.” He concluded.
Zeekr will continue to ramp up deliveries of the 001 across Europe and next year, will also start deliveries of the X SUV. This shows us that the brand can easily set up shop anywhere it likes so why not here in Malaysia as well? Surely with Geely already holding a significant stake in Proton it can do so easily as well, right?
