The facelifted Mazda2 is now on sale in Malaysia with a fresh new look.
The Mazda2 has been one of the longest-running models, being a part of the Malaysian automotive landscape for almost a decade. Now comes its most extensive facelift yet – bringing a more sporty and youthful look to the familiar B-segment entry.
The new Evolved Kodo design theme is a distinctive break from the norm with a new grille design, sleeker bumpers with a red accented honeycomb air inlets, black-and-chrome 16″ alloy wheels and more. The vehicle also comes equipped with auto headlights, auto wipers and auto folding side mirrors.
It’s worth noting that this Mazda2 facelift looks more like the Homura/Homura Aka of the UK spec. The Centre and Exclusive line look from the UK spec has not been introduced to Malaysia.
Inside, the Mazda2 gets an auto-dimming rear-view mirror and cruise control. In terms of looks, the dashboard trim is now finished in black while the upholstery is now black leatherette with suede and red stitching. Other equipment for the Mazda2 models are unchanged. You can expect to find front LED headlamps, Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, a 7″ infotainment system and i-Activesense ADAS.
The Mazda2 is available as a sedan or hatchback with the 1.5L High variant being the only specification. The engine is the familiar SKYACTIV-G 1.5L DOHC 16-Valve 4 Cylinder With VVT good for 114hp at 6,000rpm and 149Nm of torque at 4,000rpm. Power is sent to the front wheels via a 6-speed SKYACTIV-DRIVE automatic transmission. You still get GVC Plus technology, a reverse camera with guidelines, auto air conditioning, tilt & telescopic steering adjustment and a 6-speaker set-up as standard.
Colour choices include Snowflake White Pearl, Soul Red Crystal, Platinum Quartz for all models while Polymetal Gray and the new Airstream Blue are Hatchback exclusives. The sedan also gets a new and exclusive colour – Aero Gray.
On-the-road pricing without insurance is set at RM108,670 for the hatchback model and RM109,170 for the sedan model.
