BYD SEAL Previewed In Malaysia With Possible RM180k Price

This BYD SEAL is the most talked about electric vehicle right now because of its features

To be launched and distributed by Sime Darby Motors Malaysia in the coming weeks, this is great news as BYD EV’s are selling very well in Malaysia where it was launched just a year ago and also in the island state of Singapore where it is distributed by Sime Darby Motors Singapore.

With the surging demand in Malaysia and a void of mid-priced EV’s for the middle class Malaysian to buy right now (well most EV’s on sale are for the rich Malaysians only), new Chinese electric vehicle manufacturers are making their move to arrive in Malaysia.

This surge in interest for electric vehicles with middle class Malaysians came after the October 2021 announcement by the Malaysian government with the generous tax incentives for electric vehicles (EV) and the buyers.

At the time, our EV charging infrastructure was not at its best and the ‘chicken and egg’ issue of having enough public charging stations against the possible high number of users was being debated.

Then in February last year (2022) the Malaysian government announced a full import duty and road tax exemption for full electric vehicles. As long as the EV meets the international standard that has been set, namely UNR100 for electric cars and UNR136/MS2413/MS2688 for electric motorcycles, they will be eligible for the full import tax exemption.

The news confirmed that imported EVs will be exempted from road tax from the 1st of January 2022 until the 31st of December 2025.

So, with the arrival of this BYD SEAL premium electric sedan, and with an attractive price from RM180k or so, it allows many middle class Malaysians to enjoy a premium, electric sedan that is being powered by the cutting edge, highly efficient Blade Battery – 82 kWh with a possible 570km emission free driving range (WLTP) and a DC Charging (30-80%) time of up to 150 kW in just 26 minutes.

The SEAL also has an Advanced Cell-to-Body technology and using the BYD e-Platform 3.0 for greater efficiency, aerodynamics, power, body rigidity and space utilisation. Malaysian BYD showrooms will offer rear-wheel and all-wheel drive versions and this is why the selling price might be between RM180k and RM260k for the top specification SEAL.

The BYD SEAL features an 8-in-1 electric drivetrain with an efficient electric motor that delivers 230 kW (313 PS) on the rear-wheel-drive version.

The all-wheel drive SEAL features an 8-in-1 and a 3-in-1 electric drivetrain that sends 160 kW to the front wheels and 230 kW to the back wheels for a maximum combined motor power output of 390 kW (530 PS).

Interestingly, the BYD SEAL supports V2L, allowing the car to be used as a portable power supply for electrical devices (total output up to 3kW).

Visit a BYD showroom to get more information or just place your booking for the SEAL.
