The Volkswagen ID.7 electric vehicle has been shown with the brand’s best tech.
When it comes to the electric revolution, Volkswagen has been rather successful on its home turf of Europe. It is of course, keen to expand this success outside of the old continent, and to do this, it has introduced its flagship electric vehicle product – the ID.7. The Volkswagen ID.7 is a mid-sized electric sedan that measures more than 4.85 meters from bumper to bumper. The company calls it their flagship EV and it’s easy to see why with its new drivetrain, long range, quick charging, and high-tech interior.
The ID.7 was planned with the global market in mind, but its sales journey will begin in Europe, with production starting in Emden, Germany. The first iteration that will go on sales there is the ID.7 Pro variant, which comes with a motor output of 282 horsepower and an 82kWh battery capable of delivering 621km of range on the WLTP cycle.
The long wheelbase and short overhangs of the Volkswagen ID.7 allows it to offer a lot of space for occupants in both rows of seats. Volkswagen will equip all models with an augmented reality heads up display and ID. Light function. A 15″ infotainment screen is provided with a new graphic interface. The car also comes with active electronic control of the air vents with motorized horizontal and vertical flaps. Car conditioning begins as soon as you approach the vehicle with the key.
There are other goodies inside including a panoramic smart glass roof, 30-colour ambient lighting system, a 700W 13-speaker harman/kardon sound system, front seats with 12-way adjustment, pressure point massage function, and Climatronic air conditioning function.
The ID.7’s new drive system is the highlight of the show. Together with the latest battery chemistry and aerodynamic body, you get a lot of range and reasonable performance too. It can accelerate from 0-100km/h in just 6.5 seconds and has a top speed of 180km/h. The new electric motor known as the APP 550 internally at Volkswagen. It is the highest torque motor equipped in any Volkswagen EV model so far. It’s integrated into the rear axle along with a dual-stage one-speed gearbox and pulse inverter.
Being a relatively large sedan with a focus on comfort, the ID.7 comes with optional DCC adaptive damping. There’s a new dynamic manager with refined Volkswagen software and algorithms to control the dampers. Volkswagen Passenger Car Malaysia hasn’t yet launched any electric vehicles under the Volkswagen brand, but perhaps we can put the ID.7 down as a ‘Maybe’ for our market.
