Locally-Assembled Hyundai Santa-Fe 4th Gen FL Open For Booking

A new Hyundai Santa Fe arrives in CKD form with three variants on offer and order books open.

Sime Darby Hyundai Motor today announced the availability of two new SUVs – the fourth generation Tucson and the fourth-generation facelifted Santa Fe. While the former will be fully-imported, the latter will be locally-assembled as previously announced.

Hyundai Santa Fe CKD

The Hyundai Santa Fe will be locally-assembled at Inokom’s Kulim facility. The new 7-seater is actually more than a facelift though it might appear to be one. This SUV is built on an all-new platform, which allows for the possibility of a hybrid variant. Indeed, that is what will be locally available in lieu of a pure petrol variant. The diesel model is sticking around for those who want conventional combustion power.

The three variants of the Hyundai Santa Fe are the Hybrid Plus, Hybrid Max and the Diesel Max. Hybrid variants get their power from a 1.6L T-GDI petrol engine and an electric motor. Combined, these give the Santa Fe a total system output of 230PS and 350Nm of torque, which is quite a substantial boost over any of the previous petrol models. The Hybrid models get a 6-speed automatic transmission and are available as front-wheel drive SUVs only.

The Hyundai Santa Fe Diesel Max in Malaysia gets the tried and tested 2.2L CRDi turbo diesel engine with a maximum output of 202PS and 440Nm of torque. A new addition this time around is the 8-speed DCT with a wet clutch which sends power to all four wheels via Hyundai’s HTRAC all-wheel drive system.

Equipment is pretty similar across the board. All three variants get six airbags and the full Hyundai SmartSense safety suite, Smart Cruise Control, an 8″ infotainment unit with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, voice recognition, auto wipers, and wireless phone charging.

Both Max variants get a 12.3″ digital instrument cluster, a powered tailgate and leather seats. Only the Hybrid Max gets heated and ventilated front seats as well as driver seat memory. This indicates that the Hybrid Max may end up being the flagship variant, but we’ll have to wait and see what the pricing looks like.

There are four colours on offer: Snowflake White Pearl, Jet Black, Meteor Grey and Stormy Sea.

“From the unique T-shaped daytime running lights to the push-button gear selector and the elevated centre console, the Santa Fe has adopted a new level of class, comfort and prestige in all the areas that matter,” said Low Yuan Lung, Managing Director of HSDM.
