Proton works with Gentari on their first ever DC Fast Charger before launching smart.
Proton has joined hands with clean energy solutions company Gentari Sdn Bhd to introduce a cutting-edge 100 kWh DC fast charger. Located at PROTON’s Centre of Excellence (CoE) headquarters along the KESAS highway, this fast charger, installed by Gentari’s subsidiary, Gentari Green Mobility Sdn Bhd, brings accessible and efficient electric vehicle (EV) charging to all, regardless of the car brand.
Accelerating Malaysia’s EV Transition
PROTON is poised for a significant step into Malaysia’s growing electric vehicle market through their smart Malaysia initiative. This move aligns with the nation’s commitment to sustainable energy and transportation. Roslan Abdullah, Deputy Chief Executive Officer of PROTON, stated, “With our imminent entry into Malaysia’s EV market via smart Malaysia just around the corner, the time is right for PROTON to take another step into this rapidly growing segment.”
The collaboration with Gentari paves the way for a green mobility revolution in Malaysia. Shah Yang Razalli, Deputy Chief Executive Officer of Gentari and Chief Executive Officer of Gentari Green Mobility, expressed his excitement, saying, “Together with Proton, a like-minded national carmaker, our combined efforts can further accelerate the green mobility movement, setting Malaysia on the right path in its energy transition journey.”
A Strong Partnership: Exploring Charging Solutions
Since the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between Gentari and PROTON’s new energy subsidiary PRO-NET, both companies have been actively working to bolster Malaysia’s EV charging network. The collaboration extends to developing innovative solutions, including a proof-of-concept for a mobile EV charging solution utilizing the Proton Exora. These mobile chargers offer 30 kW of charging power, and user studies are ongoing to assess their demand.
PRO-NET and Gentari are also collaborating to install fast chargers at several Proton dealerships. The first phase of this program aims to install five additional Gentari DC chargers by the end of 2023, with a target of twenty dealerships. This initiative ensures a network of reliable charging stations for Proton EV users.
Additionally, in a holistic approach, four smart Malaysia dealers have already installed DC chargers from other providers ahead of the launch of their first model, the smart #1. This strategic move complements PROTON’s commitment to producing its own range of EV models, starting with the mild-hybrid Proton X90, the first new energy vehicle in their lineup. More models featuring hybrid technology are planned in the coming years.
