The 3rd generation Range Rover Sport L461 arrives in Malaysia ready to up the game.
The Range Rover Sport has been launched in Malaysia by Jaguar Land Rover Malaysia (JLRM) today for RM1,698,000.00 duties fully paid. This is the third generation model, known internally as the L461. It slots between the Range Rover and Range Rover Velar.
In Malaysia, the Range Rover Sport is specified with the 3.0L six-cylinder twin-turbocharged MHEV Ingenium powertrain. An 8-speed automatic ZF-sourced transmission sends power to all four wheels with a twin-speed transfer box for high and low range.
The Range Rover Sport also comes with Terrain Response 2, All Terrain Progress Control, and Hill Descent Control for very respectable off-road performance.
It’s also worth noting that the Range Rover Sport is only available as a 5-seater, unlike previous generations where a third row of seats was optional. In this new generation, the L560 Range Rover has that option instead.
With this powertrain you get an output of 400PS and 550Nm of torque, which allows for a century sprint time of just 5.7 seconds and a top speed of 242km/h. The Range Rover Sport is built on the Modular Longitudinal Architecture (MLA-Flex) platform and comes with Dynamic Air Suspension in Malaysia as standard. Adaptive Dynamics, paddle shifters and an Open Differential Torque Vectoring by Braking lend to the Range Rover Sport’s exciting driving character.
The Malaysian spec model is shod in 22″ Style 5127 rims in Satin Dark Grey. Also on the exterior, we find integrated twin tailpipes at the rear, digital LED headlights with Image Projection, and LED taillights with rear animated directional indicators.
Inside, the Range Rover Sport is upholstered in high-quality leather.
Illuminated seat belt buckles are a great new addition, but likely will be overlooked as there are tonnes of other goodies in here. These include metal treadplates with Range Rover script, bright metal pedals, cabin air purification pro, and a 13.1″ infotainment unit running the latest Pivi Pro system.
There’s a wireless device charger, an interactive driver display and even a heads up display too. The Range Rover Sport gets the ClearSight rear view mirror, which can feed a digital video view of the rear when the view is physically obstructed by taller passengers or items in the back.
Around back, you’ll find a powered tailgate with handsfree operation with controls in the trunk to collapse the rear seats electronically and to lower the vehicle’s height for easier loading and unloading.
In terms of safety and driver assist features you can expect Emergency Braking, Blind Spot Assist, 3D Surround Camera, Adaptive Cruise Control with Steering Assist, Driver Condition Response, Lane Keep Assist, Park Assist, Front and Rear Parking Aid and more.
