Thailand becomes the inaugural ASEAN country to witness the highly awaited release of Volvo’s EX30
This launch a few days ago marks the official introduction of their first fully electric compact SUV for sale in the region, and before we Malaysians get a chance to buy one….. or two units for our garage.
The Volvo EX30 takes the title as being the smallest SUV ever produced by the Swedish automaker with the following dimensions of 4,233 mm in length, 1,837 mm in width and 1,549 mm in height. Its 2,650 mm long wheelbase however still offers decent cabin space.
The EX30 will sit in Volvo showrooms alongside the C40 and XC40 and the soon to be launched EX90 large luxury SUV.
This latest all-electric SUV is available in three distinct variants: the Core Single Motor Extended Range, Ultra Single Motor Extended Range and Ultra Twin Motor Performance. In Thailand, pricing for these models starts at 1,590,000 baht which is about RM210,000 for the Core Single Motor Extended Range. (please note that European selling prices might come with local government subsidies to encourage EV ownership).
Coming from the factory with 18-inch alloy rim, LED headlights, a single-zone climate control system, adjustable front seats and a 12.3-inch mid-screen that controls various functions, there is enough tech in this compact Volvo for a fun driving experience. Its infotainment as before is Android Auto and Apple CarPlay ready.
The Single Motor Extended Range variant goes a step further in enhancing comfort, offering additional features such as the Harman Kardon audio system, ambient lighting, a 360-degree camera, Lane Change Alert and a panoramic roof.
The Single Motor variants, the Core and Ultra Single Motor Extended Range, are powered by an NMC battery consisting of lithium, nickel, manganese, and cobalt, known for its enhanced efficiency compared to the LFP variant. With this single-motor setup, they provide an impressive range of up to 480 km on a single charge which puts the EX30 right alongside its main rivals.
Both of these variants employ a single motor delivering acceleration from 0 to 100 km/h in just 5.3 seconds, with a top speed of 180 km/h. Meanwhile, the dual-motor EX30 can accelerate to 100 km.h in just a sizzling 3.6 seconds. This makes it the fastest Volvo ever.
You have a choice of five exterior colors: Moss Yellow, Cloud Blue, Vapour Grey, Crystal White, and Onyx Black, while the interiors offer three tones: Mist, Indigo, and Breeze.
