Tata Motors recently trademarked the name “Azura,” so what are its plans now?
Indian automaker, Tata Motors, is a wildly successful brand and even owns both Jaguar and Land Rover, two major British brands, which are now merging into one brand and are rebranding to Jaguar-Land Rover (JLR). Sadly, the brand has not seen the same success in India with its compact SUVs.
Well, this is all about to change soon, or rather, it will hopefully change soon, as Tata Motors has been hard at work recently and has been making moves to try and regain the top spot for compact SUV sales in the Indian market. Will it all work out or is Tata Motors in way over their heads? Let’s find out.
Moreover, Tata Motors seems fairly confident that it will be making a comeback in the Indian compact SUV market, and the name of their upcoming model to achieve this has been a subject of speculation. Recently, the brand did unveil plans for a compact SUV but did not give it a specific name.
Recently, Tata Motors had also trademarked the name “Azura,” fuelling discussions about whether it will be the chosen name for their new compact coupe SUV, previously referred to as Curvv. Why would the brand suddenly change a product’s name? Well perhaps it did not, perhaps Curvv was simply a code name.
On top of that, this vehicle draws inspiration from the Curvv concept and shares design elements with the Nexon facelift, especially in the front fascia and interior features. Expected features include a 12.3-inch touch screen, electronic handbrake, electrically adjustable seats, a digital instrument cluster, and more.
Powertrain options for the new SUV may include the Indian brand’s new 1.5L turbo petrol engine or the 1.2L turbo petrol from the Nexon, with the possibility of a diesel engine as well. The expected launch is in 2024, and it will compete with popular SUVs like the Hyundai Creta, Kia Seltos, and others in the Indian market.
So now all we need to do is sit back and wait and soon, we will learn all the details about the new Tata compact SUV including its name. We will also see if this compact SUV will indeed help the brand find more sales in India and whether or not this will give the brand confidence to return to the Malaysian market as well.
