The 2024 Subaru BRZ also gets more safety kit along with the new STI Sport trim
Japanese automaker Subaru has officially announced the 2024 MY lineup of the BRZ in Japan, with the highlights being the expansion of the Eyesight ADAS suite in manual models and the new STI Sport trim. Will this version of the BRZ also come to Malaysia anytime soon?
The new trim of the 2024 Subaru BRZ is focused on sharper driving dynamics with an STI-tuned suspension and Brembo brakes, just like the North American 2024 Subaru BRZ tS, making it the variant of choice for anyone who aims to not just daily drive their car but also take it out for track days.
Moreover, the Subaru BRZ STI Sport doesn’t get any fierce body kit but more discreet cherry red STI emblems on the grille, tailgate, and in the full LED headlight clusters. The shark fin antenna and the mirror caps are finished in crystal black silica, matching the dark metallic shade of the 18-inch aluminium wheels as well.
On the inside, there are more STI logos, and the upholstery in black or Bordeaux colour also has red stitching, plus a few dark cast metallic accents. For a more aggressive styling, one can opt for the optional STI Sport parts including a carbon fibre rear spoiler and a more pronounced splitter among other bits.
The JDM-spec Subaru BRZ STI Sport also benefits from the same chassis upgrades found in the U.S.-spec BRZ tS. The stronger braking system by Brembo features 17-inch ventilated discs and gold-finished brake calipers, while the sharper STI-tuned suspension comprises Hitachi Astemo SFRD front dampers and revised rear dampers.
On top of that, the entire lineup of the 2024 Subaru BRZ benefits from a tweaked Vehicle Dynamics Control system. All of the manual BRZ models now also come as standard with the Subaru Eyesight ADAS suite which was previously limited to the models with automatic gearbox.
Subaru didn’t make any changes to the naturally aspirated 2.4-liter boxer engine that produces the same 232hp and 250Nm of torque. You know what they say, “if it ain’t broke, don’t fix it.” Power is transmitted to the rear axle through either a six-speed manual or a six-speed automatic transmission.
The Japanese-spec 2024 Subaru BRZ will premiere at the Fuji Speedway on September 24. The model is already available to order in Japan starting from USD22,258 (about RM104,279). Obviously, the STI Sport is the most expensive of the trim level, priced at USD25,370 (RM118,858) for the manual and topping out at USD25,745 (RM120,615)for the automatic.
