JPJ has confirmed that the news stating this is indeed fake, so disregard it
Okay so, recently there has been some news circulating on Whatsapp (why am I not surprised it was on Whatsapp) that elderly drivers will be required to take an eye test and medical test as well as even retake their JPJ driver test in order to keep their licenses but as is the case with a lot of news on Whatsapp, this was proven to be fake. Let’s dive in.
Okay, so first things first, the JPJ itself has already stated that this news is fake, so please do not go around spreading it anymore. Also, please be wary about any news you encounter from any platform that is not legitimate, such as Whatsapp, Facebook, Instagram, Twitter and others. We here at DSF recommend you always verify everything you read before sharing it.
Moreover, it would be highly unfair to elderly Malaysian drivers as some may see the act of requiring them to retest in order to keep their licenses as an act of discrimination. So what of younger drivers with disabilities of any kind or just poor vision? Should they also be required to take a JPJ retest? I think not.
That is why when one encounters any news online, it is best to verify it first. Still, we are glad one of our readers did his research to see this fake news which was going viral on Whatsapp and brought it to our attention along with the JPJ official statement on it so you can all be more informed and avoid spreading fake news.
On top of that, we all know how Whatsapp is famous for having at least one new person every other week who belongs in a mental asylum spreading some sort of fake news. One such example is my own mother, who will instantly share utter nonsense with me from time to time as soon as she receives it and I’m sure many of our younger readers can also relate.
Okay, so the moral of the story here kids is that we should always verify anything before sharing it and also, if one wants to know something about the JPJ or anything, there are always official websites to visit or numbers to call so do not resort to being a gullible sheep flocking the Whatsapp herd, okay? That was our PSA, remember to always stay safe online, Malaysia.
