Caltex had focused on distributing in-kind aid to flood victims in Johor
The whole world has been in kind of a dark place for a couple of years since 2020 and this year has been much better so far but that does not mean we did not go through other trials. The most prominent calamity we faced this year were a few unfortunate floods around the country, but thankfully Caltex Malaysia and the Malaysian Red Crescent Society are here to help.
Caltex Malaysia, the retail brand marketed by Chevron Malaysia Limited, partnered with the Malaysian Red Crescent Society (MRCS) as part of their Social Investment programme to distribute in-kind aid to flood victims in Segamat and Batu Pahat following various states being affected by massive floods with Johor tallying the highest number of victims since this March.
Moreover, Dean Gilbert, Country Chairman of Chevron Malaysia Limited said, “Our Social Investment programme is predicated on impactfully giving back to communities that need it the most.”
“One of our main priorities was ensuring the aid provided directly tied back to necessities that would effectively relieve the (flood) victims of their financial burden. We’re elated to be able to help these communities during their time of need in partnership with MRCS.” He added.
Representatives from both Caltex Malaysia and MRCS were also present at both locations to distribute backpacks and tumblers to the victims as well as vouchers to purchase school uniforms and stationery to help ease the burden of the victims financially while also providing them with some much needed hope. Something I think we could all use every now and again.
On top of that, these items were all mainly meant to aid students who were affected by floods in Johor after the local Education, Information, and Communications Committee gave a two-month exemption from wearing school uniforms. Given how strict many Malaysian schools are about things like uniforms, you can guess the level of devastation the floods have caused from this.
Tuan Haji Hakim bin Haji Hamzah, Secretary General of Malaysian Red Crescent Society also stated, “It was endearing to see how passionate Caltex Malaysia was in wanting to help these flood victims, especially in areas that were affected the most.”
He concluded with “With us continually being on-ground with flood victims from all over the country, gestures like these go a long way in not only relieving the financial burden but in showing them that they’re not alone.”
In tough times, it is important we all come together as Malaysians and help each other out when possible. Efforts like this from Caltex and the Malaysian Red Crescent Society to help out the flood victims are always inspiring and I hope that more companies and people do what they can to help.
