Watch YouTube while you charge your Polestar 2 thanks to the latest update.
Polestar have released a new remote software update for their all-electric Polestar 2 and it brings YouTube integration amongst other things. And before you yell about distracted driving, it looks like the app will only be available to use while the Polestar 2 is plugged in and being charged.
You may ask what the point is of having a car with YouTube? After all, can’t you just watch YouTube on your phone instead? Well, yes you can but I don’t think it’s ideal. Allowing the infotainment to display YouTube opens up a range of shared experiences with all other occupants. Plus, it’s also tiring to have your phone held up to your face for an hour, so this is less strenuous.
Besides the addition of YouTube support, the P2.9 over-the-air update also brings a number of other features and enhancements. The Range Assistant app has been updated for more accurate predictions and supports an improved driving style. It now allows drivers to monitor energy consumption over the previous 20, 40 and 100km with real time information. It also accounts for changes in the environment.
Apple Maps on the driver display is also a new feature for those running iOS and Apple CarPlay. Additional phone and media info on the home screen tile has been added, plus calls can be handled using the steering wheel buttons now too.
Thomas Ingenlath, Polestar CEO, comments: “We know how much our customers look forward to over-the-air upgrades and I am convinced this one will be well received, with notable new features and enhancements. YouTube is great for entertainment while charging, and our updated Range Assistant app delivers more accurate predictions and supports an improved driving style. Bringing Apple Maps to the driver display is one of many important updates to Apple CarPlay in Polestar 2.”
Polestar are rolling these updates out and also having them pre-installed on all future Polestar 2 cars.
