Triumph Motorcycles shows 2 all-new models for 2024 – the Speed 400 and Scrambler 400 X.
Triumph Motorcycles continues their product offensive for the 2024 model year with two new bikes revealed today. The Speed 400 and Scrambler 400 X are the latest entries and they both were designed from the ground up around a brand-new single engine platform.
The Triumph Speed 400 is a roadster that joins their iconic modern classics – the Speed Twin 900 and 1200. Meanwhile the Triumph Scrambler 400 X has all the off-road pedigree of its siblings, the Scrambler 900 and 1200.
The All-New Triumph TR Series Engine
At the heart of both of these bikes is the 398cc single-cylinder engine. The motor is liquid cooled and features fuel injection and four valves and a DOHC cylinder head.
Diamond-like Coatings reduce friction and improve efficiency. The engine produces 40PS of peak power and 37.5Nm of maximum torque. Matched to the new engine is a six-speed gearbox.
Shared Rider-Focused Tech
Both of these bikes also feature some shared rider-focused tech with some customization to suit each model. This includes Bosch engine management with a ride-by-wire throttle as well as Bosch dual-channel ABS. There’s also a traction control system that can be switched off with a flip of a switch. A torque-assist clutch reduces the effort needed to ride during stop/start traffic. It also prevents rear wheel locking during downshifts.
You’ll also find a large analogue speedometer with a digital LCD panel for the tachometer, fuel range and gear indicator. There’s also a USB-C charging socket for handlebar-mounted devices. Full-LED lighting is standard on both models with the Triumph daytime running light signature and a tail light signature featured. The bikes both come with a steering lock, anti-theft immobilizer and transponder chipped ignition key.
Speed 400 vs Scrambler 400 X
Despite major fundamental similarities, the Speed and Scrambler families are distinct in many important ways. The Triumph Speed 400 has a seat height of just 790mm and a weight of just 170kg while the Triumph Scrambler 400 X’s seat height is 835mm and its weight is 179kg. The bikes feature individual model-specific chassis set ups with new frames, bolt-on rear subframes and cast aluminium swingarms paired with custom suspension setups for each.
On the Speed 400, you’ll find 43mm big-piston upside-down front forks, mono-shock Rear
Suspension Unit with external reservoir, lightweight 17-inch wheels, four-piston radial front brakes with a 300mm front disc and braided lines, as well as roadster-specific
geometry and wheelbase. This bike comes with two-tone paint schemes with a prominent Triumph tank graphic. Colour options are Carnival Red, Caspian Blue and Phantom Black.
The Scrambler 400 X features a longer wheelbase, longer travel suspension, larger 19″ front wheel and wider handlebars along with a larger cast steel brake pedal, high-grip, low-mounted foot pegs as well as a larger 320mm front brake disc with an optimised brake pad compound. This bike comes headlight, radiator and sump protection, handguards, a handlebar brace with pad as well as a longer front mudguard. There are three colour schemes, each with the Triumph ‘Scrambler’ tank stripe and triangle badge – Matt Khaki Green/Fusion White, Carnival Red/Phantom Black, Silver Ice.
Aesthetically, both bikes feature a finned cylinder head, traditional exhaust header clamps, an upswept silencer, bold graphics, black powder-coated engine casings, tough gold anodised forks, hidden primary exhaust silencer and concealed liquid-cooling.
Package
Triumph Motorcycles have prepared over 25 genuine accessories for both models. They can be configured online or purchased from authorised dealers. The bikes come with a standard 2 year unlimited mileage warranty with 10,000 mile service intervals for the new engine. They’re launching in India next month and coming to the rest of the world next year.
