It would appear that the new 2024 Mitsubishi Colt is a rebadged Renault Clio
Remember the Mitsubishi Colt? Well, it would seem that the Japanese automaker is ready to give us an all-new model for the 2024 model year and it looks suspiciously similar to a certain French hatchback. Now put this car and the new Renault Clio side by side and it all starts to make sense.
Clearly, the 2024 Mitsubishi Colt draws heavily from the recently updated Renault Clio, but the Colt features a unique front bumper that features a striking pair of headlights and sleek daytime running lights (DRLs). Other changes include the brand’s signature “Dynamic shield” grille, a redesigned rear bumper and taillights.
Moreover, the entry-level variant of the Mitsubishi Colt is equipped with a naturally aspirated 1.0-liter, three-cylinder petrol engine that generates 66hp of power and 95Nm of torque. Higher-specced variants feature a turbocharged 1.0-liter engine which is more powerful making 90hp and 160Nm of torque.
The top spec Mitsubishi Colt features a naturally aspirated 1.6-liter hybrid powertrain that has a combined total output of 141hp. The internal combustion engine (ICE) gives the car up to 148Nm of torque, while the electric motor adds an additional 205Nm for a total of 353Nm of torque.
On top of that, this variant of the Mitsubishi Colt is also the most fuel-efficient variant, and is also, obviously, the quickest in the lineup, managing a 0 to 100km/h in 9.3 seconds. For comparison, Mitsubishi says the turbocharged Colt takes 12.2 seconds while the base version takes 17.1 seconds to get to 100 km/h from standstill.
On the inside, the Mitsubishi Colt offers a choice between a seven-inch touchscreen or an upgraded infotainment system featuring a larger 9.3-inch display. This will likely vary between the variants here in Malaysia just like all other vehicles across many brands are in Malaysia.
The interior of the Mitsubishi Colt is also equipped with two USB ports, a wireless charging pad and a premium Bose sound system made up of nine speakers and a subwoofer. As for the driver experience, one can choose between a standard seven-inch digital instrument cluster or upgrade to a larger 10-inch digital screen.
For now, the brand has only officially stated that the Mitsubishi Colt will be sold in Europe so while there is no official word on whether or not the car will be introduced anywhere outside of Europe, we will likely receive confirmation about this soon so we will keep our ears open for that.
