Peugeot Panoramic i-Cockpit Shown, To Debut On Next Peugeot 3008

The next Peugeot 3008 will come with this impressive panoramic i-Cockpit.

The i-Cockpit has been a significant draw for Peugeot customers in the current generation of products. It’s a truly unique interpretation of the modern car cabin and some find it more ergonomic than conventionally-designed car interiors. The original i-Cockpit has been far from a static feature, introducing digital instrument clusters, wireless connectivity, voice commands, 3D effects and more over the last decade with over 10 million units sold equipped with the i-Cockpit.

That being said, the i-Cockpit is starting to show its age and now the French company is ready to take the next step with the Panoramic i-Cockpit.

Upcoming Peugeot Panoramic i-Cockpit

This Panoramic i-Cockpit will debut on the next Peugeot 3008. At its core is a stunning new 21″ HD curved panoramic screen that appears to be floating above the dashboard thanks to a new ‘invisible fixing system’. There’s also a redesigned compact steering wheel and new i-Toggles. Other changes you can expect include new premium materials and new connected services.

The curved 21″ HD screen combines the heads-up display and central touchscreen, seamlessly extending from the driver’s side pillar to the centre of the console. The screen is slightly curved towards the driver while still being accessible to the passenger. Essential driving information is displayed on the driver’s side while the centre area gets controls for AC, navigation, media and more.

As for the i-Toggles, these are now touch-sensitive buttons that can be customised to provide instant access to 10 functions that the user finds most useful. The customisable functions include calling a favourite contact, starting navigation to a favourite destination, tuning the radio to a set frequency or setting an ideal temperature for the AC.

Another new aspect to this enhanced i-Cockpit is the repositioned gear selector. To free up space on the centre console, it has been now moved to the right of the steering wheel next to the stop/start button. This allows for a more seamless gesture for when the driver gets in the vehicle, starts it and gets going.

From the very beginning of the i-Cockpit, the compact steering wheel has been one of the main features. Now, this aspect has been extensively reworked for greater driving feel and comfort. It’s still as small as ever but has a more modern look with a redesigned central cushion for the same levitating effect of the panoramic screen. The steering mounted controls are not tactile, which prevents accidental ‘misclicks’ by the driver. In addition, two new slim controls have been added behind the compact steering wheel.

Besides that, Peugeot customers can expect new ambient lighting systems that span the entire width of the dashboard and door panels. The lighting is complemented by genuine aluminium trim pieces and carefully selected fabrics.
