When will the Mazda CX-60 arrive here to challenge its European rivals
In the old days, Japanese manufacturer Mazda used to be known solely as the “zoom zoom” brand, but has recently transitioned to a luxury brand. With its sights set firmly on the popular BMW X3, Mercedes GLC and Volvo XC60, Mazda now moves closer to the premium segment with the arrival of the CX-60 in ASEAN.
Steven Tan, President and CEO of Mazda Philippines, stated, “The Mazda CX-60 is more than an exciting new SUV; it’s the evolution of Mazda Premium—a high-quality concentration of design, driving dynamics, technology, and comfort. It offers unmatched distinction in every way.”
Moreover, every single aspect of the Mazda CX-60, which is now on sale in the Philippines has been meticulously refined to perfectly align with the Mazda Jinba-Ittai idea to offer customers a more luxurious experience where the car and driver are in complete harmony just like its larger sibling, the CX-90.
The Mazda CX-60 also puts a heavy emphasis on craftsmanship and attention to detail making it a head-turner and under the hood, the car boasts an impressive range of powertrain options for various driving preferences. Equipped with the brand’s Skyactiv technology, the CX-60 promises an exhilarating driving experience while maintaining exceptional fuel efficiency.
On top of that, the Mazda CX-60 features a front-engine, rear-wheel drive layout that maximizes weight distribution while the car is powered by a new-generation 3.3-litre straight-six engine in both petrol and diesel. The car was looking really good but due to Malaysia’s outdated tax system, this engine will definitely hurt sales in Malaysia.
The turbocharged 3.3L Inline-6 HEV e-SKYACTIV-G engine makes 284PS of power and 450Nm of torque going to 100km/h from standstill in 6.9 seconds, while the turbo-diesel 3.3L Inline-6 HEV e-SKYACTIV-D makes 254PS of power and 550Nm of torque, accelerating to 100km/h in 7.3 seconds. Both have a top speed of 219km/h.
The Mazda CX-60 also features a plethora of technology that enhance both safety and connectivity. The infotainment system seamlessly integrates with smartphones, offering an intuitive access to navigation, music, and communication features while the comprehensive ADAS system ensures the safety of everyone on the road.
The interior of the Mazda CX-60 is also designed to deliver ultimate comfort and convenience as it is spacious and boasts premium materials, as well as versatile seating configurations and ample cargo space. Essentially, the Mazda CX-60 adapts effortlessly to various needs and lifestyles.
The Mazda CX-60 in the Philippines starts from RM230,150 to RM238,770 and frankly even if the car can be cheaper here in Malaysia, as previously mentioned the 3.3-litre engine will surely turn many away. After all, why pay over RM2,000 a year for a Mazda when one can simply buy a BMW X3 and pay under RM500 annually?
What do you think of the Mazda CX-60? Would you choose it over the competition?
