The All-New Proton X90 Has Been Launched In Malaysia

The long-awaited Proton X90 has officially been launched by Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim.

Proton has been building up anticipation for its largest and most technologically-advanced vehicle yet – the X90 and now the car has officially been launched. The Proton X90 was officially launched at an event at MITEC in the presence of Malaysia’s 10th Prime Minister, Dato Seri Anwar Ibrahim.

The X90 brings a couple of important firsts for Proton. Primarily, this is the national car company’s first foray into electrification. The X90 is powered by a mild-hybrid powertrain. It pairs the familiar 1.5L TGDI 3-cylinder found on the X50 and X70 with an electric motor.

This electric motor adds about 13PS and 45Nm of torque to the already pretty powerful petrol engine. What’s more, the mild hybrid system also enables a number of fuel-saving tricks that cuts consumption down 1L/100km and cuts CO2 emissions down by 13%. All X90 models are front-wheel driven and come with a 7-speed dual clutch transmission.

The second big ‘first’ for Proton is the price and positioning. The X90 is Proton’s most expensive product ever and comes with enough tech and features to still present good value in our market. Not only is the Proton X90 electrified, it also comes with 19 sensors and cameras, 14 ADAS safety features, Auto Park Assist and a tyre pressure monitoring system.
