Volvo Cars now supports the Waze app on vehicles with Google Built-In.
Volvo Cars has added a new app to its in-car app library as part of its partnership with Waze. Drivers in the US and Asia Pacific can now access Waze’s real-time routing, navigation, and alerts through their Volvo cars with Google built-in.
The in-car Waze app is available for download on the Google Play Store and can be set up with just a one-time setup, making navigation with Waze just one simple tap away. No matter who’s driving the car and what device they use, the Waze app is accessible to all drivers.
Using the in-car Waze app is a great way to make everyday journeys easier by avoiding phone-related distractions and hassles. Drivers can enjoy the same excellent functionalities they expect from the Waze app on their mobile phones, but with a bigger and bolder eye-level display area on Volvo Cars’ infotainment system. Volvo Cars is not the first car company to integrate Waze into their vehicles – that honour goes to Renault.
“We’re continuing to expand our in-car app offer to bring more options and benefits to our customers, allowing them to personalise their car,” says Erik Severinson, Volvo’s global head of new car programmes and operations strategy. “We’re committed to continuously improving the experience in Volvo cars through our in-house software development and ongoing collaborations with tech companies such as Google and Waze.”
Aron Di Castro, Director of Marketing and Partnerships at Waze, is also thrilled about the collaboration, saying, “Having Waze’s real-time navigation, routing, and alerts seamlessly displayed in the car, without needing to connect your phone to the car, makes for a simplified and seamless driving experience.”
The Volvo Cars Developer Portal also offers an Android emulator that allowed Waze to develop and test the in-car app virtually alongside the in-car infotainment system. This dual testing allowed the team to deliver a high-quality user experience before launching the app in customer cars.
