The Lotus Eletre’s Hyper OS Runs Epic Games’ Unreal Engine

So Lotus Eletre owners can make their own games in their SUV now

So yesterday Lotus launched its first ever all-electric hyper SUV, the Eletre and while the car was definitely gorgeous, powerful and practical, one thing that was mentioned in passing caught my attention and this is going to be exciting news for all my fellow gamers. The SUV’s hyper OS runs Epic Games’ Unreal Engine.

Okay, so I am going to let my inner gamer run wild today and anyone who is familiar with Unreal Engine will already know why I am so excited to see it in the Lotus Eletre but for those not in the know, Unreal Engine is a 3D computer graphics game engine developed by Epic Games, first showcased in the 1998.

Moreover, Unreal Engine is now even integrated into the popular game Fortnite and is used as a tool in that game to essentially allow players to create their own games within the game. This means that, in theory, any Lotus Eletre owner can also create their own games IN their car. Oh, how far technology has come.

Now, this may not seem like such a big deal to some, but by incorporating the use of Unreal Engine into the Lotus Eletre’s Hyper OS, the automaker has basically turned their SUV into a gaming PC on wheels and for parents of gamer children, this car might just save you the constant “are we there yet?” questions when going on holiday.

Before I go further into why having Unreal Engine in the Lotus Eletre is a “pro gamer move,” let me briefly explain what it is and how it started. Epic Games, arguably one of the biggest game developers in the world created Unreal Engine using C++ language coding for its 1988 first-person shooter game, Unreal.

Since then, Unreal Engine has been celebrated as the most beginner-friendly game creation tool in modern times and while one will need basic knowledge of scripts, coding and game development to use Unreal Engine effectively, it is so simple that anyone can make amazing games with it.

On top of that, Unreal Engine can also allow one to create photoreal rendering in real-time, make robust multi-player frameworks, work on VFX and Particle Simulation, create film quality post-process effects, act as an advanced AI and more, essentially, one can create anything they can imagine from inside their Lotus Eletre.

Clearly, there are many other things that Unreal Engine can do but I am personally excited as this is the first time we are seeing it in a car’s OS so I can’t wait to see what people can create with it. This is truly a game changer and couple this with the Lotus Eletre’s studio quality speakers and you have practically any number of AAA games in your car.

What do you think some creative gamers will be able to achieve with the new Lotus Eletre?
