Is The VW ID.7 The Rebirth Of The VW Jetta

The VW ID.7 is on its way and it looks like very much like a revised Jetta.

Volkswagen plans to increase the share of its electric models to 80 percent in Europe by 2030 and it included the new ID.7.

Interestingly, despite the small issues cropping up with current ID vehicle, this move is an important milestone on this path, as this Jetta sedan rebirth is scheduled to be launched in Europe before the end of 2023.

The new all-electric model for long-distance driving is able to fully show off its strengths on the winding and mountainous roads in the region.

Kai Grünitz, Member of the Board of Management responsible for Development, explains: “With the ID.7 we have exploited the potential of the MEB even further. We have also used a new, more powerful and more efficient electric drive motor.

In addition, we have enhanced the control quality of the running gear and were thus able to further increase driving comfort. The combination of a superior drive system, comfortable running gear and long range make the ID.7 the perfect limousine for long distance travel.”

The ID.7 is the first model based on the modular electric drive (MEB) platform that has a newly developed and highly efficient drive by Volkswagen. It is the most powerful and highest-torque electric drive motor in a Volkswagen ID. model so far.

The power unit with the internal designation APP550 was developed by Volkswagen Group Components in Kassel and is also produced there.

The new electric drive has been optimized above all in terms of energy consumption: depending on the battery size, WLTP ranges of up to 700 kilometers and charging capacities of up to 200 kW are forecast.

The ID.7 thus underlines its long-distance suitability, especially for frequent drivers and fleet customers.

“Smart air vents” react quickly and function like fans

The ID.7 can activate the air conditioning before passengers get into the vehicleThe vehicle interior is cooled on hot days and heated when it is cold. If the door is opened in conditions with high outside temperatures, smart air vents in the cockpit distribute the air quickly over a large area by means of dynamic horizontal movements.

The smart air vents are controlled electronically and move dynamically to distribute the air quickly throughout the interior.

When the passengers are seated in the car, the air flow can be re-directed straight at the body or used for indirect ventilation of the interior space, according to the preference. The ID.7 is the first Volkswagen model with such an intelligent control system.

Strong focus on user-friendly operation

The climate control function is located on the uppermost operating level of the new 38-centimetre (15-inch) infotainment display of the ID.7.

This means that it is always visible and can be activated by simple tap of a finger. Using the clear air conditioning context menu, all smart air vents can be digitally controlled at the outlets.

The strength and direction of air movements can be adjusted intuitively and saved individually. The temperature can be controlled by means of backlit touch sliders.

Meanwhile, following the VW ID.3, ID.4, ID.5 and ID.6 (only in China) and the ID. Buzz, this ID.7 will be the sixth model of the all-electric ID. family.

After the ID.4, it will be the second global vehicle from Volkswagen based on the modular electric drive matrix (MEB).

The world premiere of the ID.7 is scheduled for a few weeks’ time (April 17th 2023).
