Car enthusiasts in Malaysia and the ASEAN region are in for a treat as Tokyo Auto Salon Kuala Lumpur makes its debut from 9-11 June at the Malaysia International Trade & Exhibition Centre (MITEC). This satellite event modeled after the world-renowned custom and performance car show in Japan will feature a fleet of specially imported show-stopping cars from Japan and tier-1 exhibitors and tuners such as Top Secret, Spoon, HKS, and Greddy among others.
With a total floor space of 130,000 sq ft, the show is expected to draw 150,000 visitors, including car enthusiasts, exhibitors, and manufacturers. Jointly organized by MUSE Group Asia, Element X Strategies, and San Ei Corporation, the owner of the Tokyo Auto Salon intellectual property, the event promises to be every bit as prestigious as its Japanese counterpart.
According to Riduwan Matni, CEO of MUSE Group Asia, the show aims to showcase the latest and most innovative offerings from big and small automotive players in Malaysia and ASEAN.
The event offers different sizes of booths for rent, with more than 50% of the floor space already filled by exhibitors like Red Springs Sdn Bhd, Hot Wheels, EMMA Malaysia, Soon Soon Garage, and regional auto players like Option 4 Wheel from Thailand and Adtory-Minshing Automotives from China.
The automotive aftermarket segment in Malaysia is valued at over US$6 billion per year, making a sizeable contribution to Malaysia’s Gross Domestic Product (GDP). With Malaysia ranking third globally in car ownership at 93% of households, the robust interest from motor enthusiasts and automotive brands is expected to welcome the Tokyo Auto Salon coming to the shores of Malaysia.
The event will feature a beautiful line-up of race queens from Japan, in addition to performances and workshops curated for the show. Early bird ticket buyers will be in the running for a lucky draw to win two pairs of all-expense-paid trips to the Tokyo Auto Salon in Japan in 2024.
According to Junichi Fukui, the Director-General of the Tokyo Auto Salon Federation, the Kuala Lumpur show aims to create a vibrant and viable platform for its members and potential regional manufacturers to engage in business. He also notes that the Tokyo Auto Salon outside of Japan intends to garner even greater exposure for its members and tap into new and emerging markets.
The love for JDM cars has grown exponentially worldwide, and the Tokyo Auto Salon has been at the epicenter of this phenomenon. The Tokyo Auto Salon Kuala Lumpur is envisioned to become a strategic hub for both enthusiasts and members in ASEAN.
