So What’s New In The 2023 Volvo XC90 Ultimate And Recharge?

See what Volvo added to the new Volvo XC90 Recharge for 2023

T5, T8 Inscription, Inscription Plus, unless you are a diehard Volvo fan, then all these different terms and variants are mostly just confusing, so for 2023, Volvo Car Malaysia has simplified it all and is giving us just one electric variant, the 2023 Volvo XC90 Recharge plug-in hybrid (PHEV).

So for 2023, Volvo Car Malaysia has updated the large 7-seater SUV, the XC90 and it comes with a few new features both inside and out, so let’s take a look at all these changes and see if the new Volvo XC90 in Malaysia is just new or new AND improved as well as my impression of it after a short test drive.

So first things first, how does it drive? The previous version of the Volvo XC 90 was a twin-charged (both turbocharged and supercharged) 2.0 litre inline four paired to a 48V mild hybrid system, I feel the newer engine layout (mostly the same but is now turbocharged ONLY) is much smoother.

Moreover, one thing that was pointed out to me during the test drive was the fact that the engine is extremely quiet even when turned on and the 2023 Volvo XC90 Recharge actually never really engaged the engine throughout my drive which involved going uphill but the car never once felt underpowered.

So my verdict on the drive? Amazing, it was smooth, power delivery was almost instant which is impressive considering the size and weight of the new Volvo XC90 Recharge and it was a very comfortable ride as well as the car handles bumps very well gliding over them smoothly even at slightly higher speeds.

As for the exterior, the 2023 Volvo XC90 now features an all new redesigned rear bumper and I like the overall shape and look of the car, especially the signature “Thor’s hammer” headlights. The rims on the car also look extremely stylish and fit the overall look of the car.

On top of that, the interior of the 2023 Volvo XC90 Recharge is now completely leather-free but the material used is just as soft and comfortable as leather and even mimics the look of leather very well down to the creases when you push a finger down on it.

The central infotainment screen of the 2023 Volvo XC90 while still a 9-inch vertical unit is now powered by Google and allows for wired Apple CarPlay with a USB-C connection and a range of other Google apps built in and the 12-inch digital driver display comes in 2 modes which can display the navigation or dials directly onto it.

So in a nutshell, there are a bunch of cool new additions to the 2023 Volvo XC90 that make it far better not just to drive but more convenient as a whole than before. Plus the simplified new engine layout is sure to help keep costs down in the long run so if you have been eyeing this SUV, there is no better time to get it than now.

Plus, from 1 March 2023 to 31 March 2023, customers interested in the Volvo XC90 Ultimate And Recharge can place their bookings and enjoy a complimentary five-year service package (VSA5+). VSA5+, otherwise known as the ‘Volvo Service Agreement 5 Plus’. This is a 5-year comprehensive car service package from Volvo Cars that covers the first five car services including Wear and Tear items that may need to be replaced.
