Electric cars are taking away exciting driving machines like this CLS 63 AMG.
We first saw the sexy silhouette of the CLS back in September 2005 when Daimler Chrysler Malaysia launched the first ever CLS-Class in Malaysia.
Priced at RM688,888 brand new this was the sexiest looking sports sedan on offer for many years until the Porsche Panamera arrived.
Its high asking price made it very reclusive and so it popularity only increased a few years later when private importers (AP holders) started selling used units in Malaysia for almost half the price.
The engine available from new were two petrol variants, which were a newly developed 3.5 litre V6 that came with 272 hp and another in the CLS 55 AMG which was a muscular 5.5 litre V8 engine under the hood developing a massive 476 hp of power.
Coupled to the engine was a brand new 7G-TRONIC transmission with seven forward speeds. This combination allowed the CLS to accelerate from standstill to 100km/h in 7.0 seconds while sipping about 10.1 litres of petrol per 100 kilometres (NEDC combined consumption).
The CLS 350 was offered with Airmatic DC air suspension, the Logic7 sound system and 17-inch instead of 18-inch alloy wheels. Today, the used car market is filled with this early CLS Benz with prices ranging from just RM20k to RM35k.
Meanwhile, here we have a 2013 model CLS 63 AMG with a 5.5L V8 engine that was imported into Malaysia in 2014 and with just 89,660 kilometres on the odometer.
This is probably the last true sports sedan that you could buy for the price of a basic compact Benz.
Powered by a hand-built AMG professional technician who has his signature on the engine top, the AMG 5.5-litre V8 biturbo engine is the absolute pinnacle of efficiency which is the combination of high performance and low fuel consumption which remains unrivalled by any other competitor in the segment.
Power delivery is rated at 557 hp at 5,500rpm and generating 720 Nm of torque at 1,750-5,000rpm, its acceleration from a standing start to 100 km/h is just 3.6 seconds which clearly places this CLS 63 AMG in pole position in the current sports sedan line-up.

Currently in our used car classifieds, there are dozens of CLS350 models from the same era on sale and their asking prices range from RM110,000 to RM130,000.
Interestingly, there is only one other CLS 63 AMG on sale, at about the same asking price and this proves the rarity of this model and its higher desire value with affluent Malaysians looking for a sports sedan that will rival supercars on acceleration (3.6 seconds) and also drop dead looks.
If you need to know the yearly road tax value or its average yearly cost of maintenance, then clearly you cannot afford to buy this Mercedes.
