The Mercedes-Benz EQS 500 shows the brand’s commitment to Malaysia
So recently I was at the Mercedes-Benz Production Plant in Pekan, Pahang. What was I doing there? I was witnessing the launch of the all-new Mercedes-Benz EQS 500 4Matic which is now fully CKD locally assembled and will serve as the new electric flagship for the brand, and it starts from RM648,888.
Yes, despite being far more advanced and having more standard kit and technology equipped the new Mercedes-Benz EQS 500 4Matic costs less than the lower spec Mercedes-Benz EQS 450+. This, according to Mercedes-Benz Malaysia CEO, Sagree Sardien, is part of the brand’s commitment to expediting electrification in Malaysia.
Sagree Sardien, reaffirming this commitment, stated, “Mercedes-Benz has reached a new milestone with the roll out of its first locally-assembled electric vehicle EQS 500 4MATIC. This supports our global business strategy of offering our customers a comprehensive EQ range and contributing to a higher EV adoption in Malaysia.
Moreover, the launch of this all-new Mercedes-Benz EQS 500 4Matic also saw our Minister of International Trade and Industry (MITI), YB Senator Tengku Datuk Seri Utama Zafrul Tengku Abdul Aziz, who when he saw the car, was smiling from ear to ear just like everyone else present.
YB Senator Tengku Datuk Seri Utama Zafrul also said, “Malaysia, as one of the leading and more mature E&E manufacturing hubs in ASEAN, is already taking steps to strengthen her position through policy measures, as well as by leveraging on the existing EV ecosystem and ensuring a solid talent pipeline.
Being the new flagship of the German luxury carmakers electric lineup, the Mercedes-Benz EQS 500 4Matic is as stylish as can be and features a coupe-like shape as well as a futuristic and technology-packed interior. It also features a stellar electric range so you won’t ever feel range anxiety.
The Mercedes-Benz EQS 500 4Matic is also the sole variant of the EQS in Malaysia as of today and is rated at 330 kW with a WLTP combined electrical consumption of 21.3 to 17.6 kWh/100km and produces 828Nm of torque from its permanently synchronized dual motors. This essentially makes the car a four-wheel drive.
This means that the new Mercedes-Benz EQS 500 4Matic can sprint to 100km/h from a standstill in just 4.8 seconds onwards to a top speed of 210km/h. Its 108.4kWh battery can also be charged from 10 to 80 percent in just 31 minutes and the car is fully equipped with all the latest Mercedes-Benz safety and driver assistance features.
Obviously, there is so much more to talk about with this car but all that should be experienced first hand so if you really want to experience the future of motoring in Malaysia, then head on over to your nearest Mercedes-Benz showroom and test drive one of the brand’s five spectacular electric vehicles (EVs). You won’t regret it.
