Geely Galaxy benefits from Volvo’s acquisition of Volvo Car
Okay, so first things first, Volvo Cars, which is owned by Chinese automaker and our first local carmaker’s official business partner, Geely, has bought over the stakes of its parent company, Volvo in China and now, the company can benefit from unifying all its technology for even more advancement in the future.
Before we get into the handsome looking Galaxy vehicles we see in the pictures, this recent acquisition will give Geely full ownership of Volvo’s manufacturing plants in Chengdu in Sichuan Province, Daqing in Heilongjiang Province and its R&D facility in Shanghai as well as its national sales company in the Chinese market.
All right, now to answer the big question, the vehicles you see are the Geely Galaxy L7 SUV and the Geely Galaxy Light Concept coupe, both of which are electric vehicles (EVs) but honestly, we all know that all these brands are basically one and the same as they share a lot of features and underpinnings anyway. One thing that bugs me is how similar this coupe looks to a certain German made coupe but both look absolutely stunning so I’m not complaining.
Moreover, while yes, these are Geely vehicles, there is more at play here. The Geely Galaxy brand plans to launch 7 new cars over 2 years starting with the Geely Galaxy L7 SUV and along with the launch of this vehicle, the brand also unveiled a new logo for the Galaxy brand which will focus on long range premium hybrids and EVs.
The Geely Galaxy L7 is a Plug-in Hybrid (PHEV) SUV and started presales today, with deliveries slated to begin in the second quarter of this year while the Geely Galaxy Light is a large EV coupe with the road-ready version assumed to be unveiled at the end of this year.
On top of that, the Geely Galaxy L7 will sit on Geely’s E-CMA platform, co-developed with Volvo and as for batteries, the car adopts the Aegis battery safe system, which, in addition to the battery management system BMS 3.0, adds eight layers of protection for battery safety.
The Geely Galaxy L7 is also a decently large SUV and measures 4,700mm in length, 1,905mm in width and 1,685mm with a wheelbase of 2,785mm. The car, of course, also comes with an airy, comfortable and spacious interior complete with all the latest safety and comfort features.
The Geely Galaxy L7 will be equipped with a hybrid powertrain NordThor Hi-X 8848 which makes 287 kW power or 488 kW of power in the performance version, giving the car a top speed of 200km/h and a century sprint time of 6.9 seconds. It also has a thermal efficiency of 44.26 percent which is above average.
While this just about sums up everything one needs to know about the Geely Galaxy L, the specs of the new Geely Galaxy Light coupe should also be revealed along with the production model and we will surely keep you updated as we get more info.
